At what age should I neuter our dog?

I read online that the age is between 4-6 months but then I came across a site that said that some vets perform the procedure after 6 weeks of age. That is a huge gap in age from 6 weeks to 4 months so it makes me wonder which is safer. Granted the site did mention that this is done the majority time at such a young age for shelter dogs and normally is done without any complications. I'm sure it's not necessary at such a young age our puppy is 10 weeks however we are looking at the fact that money is a bit tight and we want to get it done while we have the money. Should I have a guilty conscience for getting it done so soon?

About 6 months is the ideal age...Younger than that is just too young and not quite as safe for the animal.

I would not do so to such a young puppy it is an opertation after all and comes with its own risks I think this is why they prefer to wait until the dog is a little older. I understand money may be tight but the puppy is 10 weeks you have another 4 months at least before you need to get it neutered find out the cost of the operation and save the required amount a month put it somewhere safe or with a family member so you dont spend it. Personally I would wait until they are at least a year old let them do as much of their growing as possible as you know having it done can cause them to put on weight, anethestic on a fully grown animal will be much safer than it done on a small puppy and I dont think our needs should come into when making the choice whats best for the dog is whats most important right now.
