Ok folks, I've been sitting here for hours rolling this over in my mind and I can't find flaw with it. I want to see what my fellow mylotters say about it. I think this could turn into a HUGE debate.
I really don't understand much about economy and politics, but I think I might be on to something.
If marijuana was legalized, not only for prescription use, like you could walk into a place and buy a pack of "greens." Now, first off let's look at the street price of drugs. An ounce of marijuana could run between $70 and $200 depending on location and quality. Now...I don't know how much a regular pack of cigs weigh but I'm thinking a very fair price would be around $20 for a "pack."
From the little bit I know about growing it, it is very hearty and will grow in almost any soil. Just imagine the tax dollars that we get from alcohol and then double it. Those who enjoy smoking it would gladly pay that price.
I can find only one flaw with the plan. There would have to be a test that would tell you if the person was high right then and there. THC stays in your system so long it would be too hard to tell in cases of DUI and stuff.
Alcohol is legal and I don't know about you guys, but I've never seen anyone stoned get all mad and punch stuff. I can't say the same about alcohol. And withdrawl from alcohol can literally kill you. Not the case with marijuana.
This simple act of legislation would spring up an entire new market, crops for farmers, etc...
I think it's a great idea, what about you?
