Can someone truly be happy having no kids or their own...only a step-son?

Explain your reasoning. I'm in a relationship and my bf has a son. I have no kids of my own, and he doesn't want anymore. I already look at his son as if he were my own child, but I'd like to have children in the future. My bf doesn't. Is there anyway that I can give up my dreams of being a mother in all senses of the word, and be happy just being a step-mother?

You are the only one who can answer that question. As far as I am concerned, if you have a desire to have children and you don't because of your bf now, then you will resent him in the long run. Yes, you can make a relationship with his son, but there is a special bond between a mother and her children. I'd rethink this relationship and make it known to him the importance of having a child of your own.
