I was sitting at the tv when a thought came across my mind. I wondered "what was the first music video?" I decided to ask my sis and she was just as stumped as I was. Then I said I should google it. But then I thought that maybe Ill ask my fellow myLotters. It seemed like a great discussion so I decided to start it. So Im asking YOU to do the research. What was the first music video? Who was it by? What was the name of the song? If you could please provide a link.

In like the 1960's and 1970's a lot of bands would make videos, but there wasn't a lot of outlets for them to be played. I don't know the exact first band or song for a video, but I know bands like Queen had made videos, but there wasn't like a tv station or the internet to watch them.
But I am quite sure that the first video played on MTV was the Buggles' video for the song 'Video Killed The Radio Star. Hope that sort of answers your question. It isn't necessarily the first one ever made, but it was the first one on MTV =)

Sometime in the early 70's I watched a tv performance by Todd Rundgren where he introduced the song "Can We Still Be Friends?"; he stated before performing the song that this was the origination of a new music genre called a "music video". The video featured Todd Rundgren performing the tune at the piano with the image of a tiny ballerina dancing on the piano. Nothing spectacular I know but I have clear recollection of the event and how Rundgren introduced the song.
