Have you ever tried to find a location only to be completely lost?

I'm supposed to have a two hour a week preschool placement this semester working with children. I'll be out in the community this semester and instead of walking to my placement I'll have to jump into my car and drive there.
Today, we decided that we should try and find the location early because I've never been there and I do not know the town very well in which I'll be working. We drove around for 45 minutes or more trying to find this location and were completely lost the entire time. We had to turn around on several occasions and back track and we still could not find the place.
We eventually gave up and decided we'd come back, look at the map and try again tomorrow. My placement begins on Thursday morning so I definitely have the find the location. I can't afford to wait and the weekend is the only chance I've really got to find it.
Has this ever happened to you? What did you use to find where you needed to be? This situation has definitely lead me to believe that I need a GPS!

I'm with you on that. I had to find the place I was going to be working at and the Map Quest directions were not complete, there was a side street that it didn't tell you about, I got so frustrated that I went back home and looked it up again. GPS is good but you could call the placement place and ask them the best way to get there.

It happened to me last week, actually. My friends and I were planning to go to this restaurant in a part of the city that none of us had ever been to. Mind, you, this was really late into the evening (around 8 PM) and freezing. We walked around for hours and couldn't find it at all, and nobody we asked knew what we were talking about.

I get lost all the time. I am so horrible when it comes to directions. I always have to stop somewhere to ask someone how to get to where I am going. I just bought a new cell phone that has a gps. it has been a real life saver. I don't know what I would do without it.
