New "Contactless" cards are coming soon that don't require a PIN or swiping through a reader..the idea is they have a low purchase limit (£10 for the UK issue),so they'd be ideal for your morning paper or coffee,a bus ticket,or similar, working in a similar way to London's Oyster Card. With concerns about hacking conventional cards at present, how do you feel about newer (and possibly more accessible) cards to carry around? here's the article link.. http://www.fool.co.uk/news/your-money/2009/01/08/barclays-launches-contactless-debit-card.aspx?source=uemfoleml0010038

I wish Canada is planning to do it as well. I think it will be very useful but wouldn't it push people to spend more?

I remember reading Japan was working on a similar type of technology that would enable you to get items from a vending machine without having cash on your person,by using a modified cellphone...I'm wondering if these new cards could be used as a "Conventional" debit card as well as this max £10 item Limit thing mentioned,or are they yet another type of card you'd have to carry around? It Remains to be seen how much use you can make of these micropayments before a limit kicks in..and like the article says, there's concerns if the card was lost or stolen..how much could someone else get from the card in £9.99 chunks? As to Canada,if the idea works well and caught on,it might well become available there too..Thanks for the response!
