Now, before you get all in a twist, the young men happened to be my oldest grandson (twenty) and his friend. They came early this morning to deer hunt on the last day of hunting season here. Those guys spent all morning until around noon or so and then came in to eat the spaghetti dinner I had prepared. Then, out they went until right at dark. As they came back into our yard, my husband asked them if they would eat dinner with us if I cooked. It sounded great to them, so while I got it ready, they went downstairs and shot a game of pool. My husband had already said they'd not go home until our grandson shot a game of pool. He even took his girlfriend down there on Christmas Day to play!
It was nice having them here today. I did take a little time out and went to see our son's son play a game of basketball at his school early this morning. My husband felt like he needed to stay around in case the boys got into trouble. Didn't feel like leaving them here by themselves and no way to get in touch with anyone. They were very appreciative of our hospitality and the cooking. I was happy to see his friend was not bashful when it came to eating like some kids who have never been around you would be. Oh, we had met him before, but not as much as some of the kids they know. But, I'm sure they'll be back next fall when hunting season rolls around!

It sounds like a really fun day all the way around. I hope you enjoyed cooking for the hungry mouths. It makes a house feel homey.

Oh, I enjoyed every minute of it! And my grandson is SO funny! While they were filling their plates at lunch with the spaghetti, he said, "Nanny, I don't think you fixed enough meat sauce." I thought, that's how much I always fix when there are four of us. Hey, I didn't have a kid who eats like those two boys! When my husband and I got our plates, there truly wasn't much meat sauce left. But we didn't care. I was just glad to feed them. Besides, my husband had made a big bowl of tossed salad. We knew our grandson didn't eat it, but his friend did. Our grandson doesn't get to come down often, so it was a joy for him to be here.

Sorry about that! No, they didn't get them a deer. They said they saw one 6 pointer but he got away. But they got two last weekend on his friend's granddaddy's property up near where they live. So they have had some success this season. And, yes, it's nice to have the grandkids around. He works all the time and has a girlfriend, so we don't see him much unless we go to his house. But he still loves us and never fails to give us a hug when he's around, only yesterday I didn't get one, probably because of the sweat.

It's always nice when those grandkids bring their friends around. You didn't say if they got their deer or do they just hunt for the fun of setting in the tree stand? It is great that they stuck around for supper and to play pool with your husband. So many kids don't have time for their grandparents when they ger to be that age

That sounds wonderful Barb. It was thoughtful of your hubs to hang around, you hear so many sad stories these days of accidents with hunting. And I think it's great that the "boys" were more than comfortable to come and spend time with you and stop for a meal and game of pool...most kids these days would avoid their grandparents I'm sure. Good on you both.

I rarely see my own grandkids...their ages are 19 , 13, 11 and 10. I barely know them as they live about 5 hours away. One daughter drives but not the other. I live in a remote village so no trains or buses either. The 19 year old boy doesn't drive but I think the girls will as they get older....I wonder if they will come and visit?

I told my daughter last night that I sure was happy his friend wasn't bashful. He ate just like our grandson! AND, that was lots! They filled their plates like they hadn't had anything to eat in a week. And that's how we like for them to eat. The grandkids aren't around as much as they were when they were younger. He and his brothers and sister used to spend summers with us, only going home on the weekend (they live over an hour away), because their Mom is a single Mom and she works every day. But, since they've grown up and got into lots of sports and girlfriends/boyfriend, we don't see the two older ones that much. And, since the two younger boys are 13 and 15, we aren't seeing them as much, either.

Lol you are so bad ,never got twisted at all.Happy to know that you can connect with your grandson,so many times there is this diconnect across the generation gap.It also nice to knwo that they can have so much fun with you.I think it is because you and your husband tried to be accomodating and non judgemental. Many older persons(no offence) tend to be suspicious of the younger always thinking that they are always up to no good.
I think your grandson and his friend too are well behaved young people and I am sure they will comebac because they had such a good time.
