What dance class would you take?

My 15 year old recently asked me if I thought it was weird that she'd like to take a belly dancing class. I didn't think it was weird at all. She read that it's great exercise for the waist and abdomen and that made it appealing to her. My older daughter is interested in signing up for a jazz ballet style class. We have a studio near us that might be able to accommodate both of them so I guess I'm going to have to give them a call LOL If you could take any kind of dance class (not worrying or being shy about your ability or anything), what would be the first class you would love to sign up for?

I have thought about taking a dance class for a couple of reasons. I think it would be fun and a new adventure. Since watching some of the reality dance shows, I think that I would like to take ballroom dance lessons. There are so many styles to choose from in this genre. Also I might be interested in taking salsa dance lessons, as it seems so sexy to me.

ROFL! Couldn't we ALL use the exercise? ;) I think most dance classes would be beneficial to the health, even from the perspective of just getting up and moving more than we may typically do. I do agree with you, too, that the crop of reality shows involving dance are probably having a huge impact on those in the business of giving lessons. Everyone's going to "think they can dance" *grin* Latin dance is definitely sexy. Now if I could just find someone to take the lessons with me... LOL

I actually know how to belly dance. So, tell your daugther, it's MAJOR fun and great exercise. It helps make your body more flexible. I used to have a stiffer body. Hmmm... I've always wanted to do ballet since I was little. Maybe three years old? However, my family was too poor for me to attend class, buy shoes, and outfits for it. I would love to do it. My cousin did for a bit. The thing of it is, I don't know if others dances are like these Belly dancing isn't, with Ballet you either have it or you don't. Years of experience will not make you a great dance. Better of course, but not great. Ballet is a skill you either have or don't.

Oh awesome! Thank you so much for posting this, smartie. I'm glad to have your experience and recommendation with the belly dancing! She is not very overweight but she's still carrying around some "baby fat," if you will, particularly in the mid-section. I think that's why she was drawn to belly dancing as a potentially fun way to tone that area.

I think it works the stomach and arms the most. She'll see results.

Ive already taken ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop. I wouldnt mind taking tap and hip hop again and then the other type of dances I want to take are belly dancing, contemporary, and Latin ballroom. I want to get back into dance classes soon but I dont have the money right now. :(

I'd love to learn the tahitian dance. I'd love to be able to do that quick shaking & swiveling of one's hips. Hmm,torn between a self-defense class or tahitian dance lessons. I'll probably go for "Hips" as my weapon of choice, so Tahitian dance it is! : )

That's one I hadn't thought of! I'm sure hips can be quite an effective "weapon" too... at least in some kinds of struggles LOL
