I already have one brother on unemployment and as of today I have another. The CNC job he had laid everybody off today. He is freaking out. He just bought a new truck last week and he has bills to pay. Anybody else get hit with or have family get hit with layoffs with this new wave of lay offs?

My sister in law got laid off a few days ago. My brother(her hubby) just found out that the company he works for will not have their contract renewed. That makes my mom, my sister, my brother, and my sister in law. Apparently some more of my in laws got laid off as well. When it rains it pours.

Luckily no, we have not been affected. Actually my husband's job is basically recession proof. The worse the economy, the better his business is, because he sells things that people will always need, but can't always afford to just buy. He works for a rent to own company. They sell electronics, furniture, appliances. And they're business is still going very very strong. His store is hiring right now too, they need delivery drivers. Both of theirs just quit, and I believe the sales rep quit too. Too bad I couldn't afford a sitter, they pay pretty well!

It is hard to believe with everyone out looking for jobs now that there are people quitting jobs.

Yeah, I know. But these are like 20 year old kids who probably still live home with their parents, so don't have any real need for a job. I don't even know why they quit. I know the sales rep quit because she wants to go back to waitressing, she seems to think she'll make more money that way. Pfft, not at this point she won't, who actually goes out to eat anymore?

No I have not heard of anyone that I know losing their job. I am sorry to hear about your brothers lilybug. Is there any way he can return the truck? at least it will be one thing he won't need to worry about paying. I hope he is able to find another job - I know it;s hard for a lot of people at the moment.

Sorry to hear bout your brother's job loss. I'm thinking the new truck wasn't such a good idea not in times like these ya know? We've got dealerships here that are willing to take returns on vehicles up to a month after purchase if you loose your job!! Crazy huh? He may want to look into that or the alike. I think the worst of it is if you do find a new job you are on the bottom rung of the totem pole and you are not going to find something paying what you did make. Trust me going back to work after 5 yrs so we have grocery money, wasn't easy finding somewhere willing to work my hubby's schedule and then feel so degraded to be making what I made 11yrs ago! But one has to eat KWIM? We were on the chopping block about 2-3 weeks ago @ my hubby's work they got rid of or the polite way to say laid off 550 people. Boy that was one heck of a week, on pins and needles praying he didn't come home early. As my job 10 hrs a week doing retail won't get us very far.

Wow! Did they not have any warning that his company might be having this type of thing happening? Hopefully his truck purchase was a matter of a need and not a want. I wouldn't be making any major purchases right now unless I knew that I enough reserves to cover my payments for a year. Almost every industry is at risk right now.

So far I do not know anyone that has been laid off. However, with how it is going, it seems my mother may or may not lose her job depending on what happens the next few weeks. She's not working as much as she used too and other branches of her plant have had to take month long absences waiting for products to come in so they can actually work. The company is already bankrupt so I'm not sure how they're staying afloat. It may or may not happen it's all up in the air really.

hat is really too bad. i feel for your brother. It is happening to everybody all over the place. It is really not a good thing for most peop;e in this country. I guess since he just bought a new truck it was unexpected.
