Dog eat dog poop?

Hey mylotters.
If you have an uneasy stomach than I suggest you stop here. Just a fair warning.
I understand that dogs eat nasty things, poop included. I've accepted this fact.
The one thing I don't like about our new puppy is he is DETERMINED to feed on my other dogs 'business' while it's coming out.
First of all this is completely DISGUSTING!
My dog Punkin is already shy, has been for the three years I've owned him. In North Carolina he would hide behind a bush to do his business. When someone would walk behind the bush he would stop in the middle of his business and go behind another bush. Now that we're in Colorado, there are no bushes and he's already accepted that fact. But now that Sully, our puppy, gets behind him to 'feast' punkin refuses to go. Now I find his little 'presents' inside hidden behind the table or other private places.
Of-course this is really annoying on my part, and I know punkin is incredibly uncomfortable!
So first of all I was wondering why dogs do this. Not only fresh but whatever is leftover on the ground outside. Does it have something to do with survival?
Also, is there any way I could get him to stop? My sister suggested I mix pineapple in with his food, but before I go buy pineapple every time I buy dog food, will this even work?
Thanks guys, any input will help =)

Wow, I've heard of dogs eating other animals poop before but never during the act. So sorry you have to go through that, I wouldnt even begin to know how to help.
My dogs do this as well except instead of eating eachothers, they go digging in my cats litter box.
I was told they do this to mask their own scent and take on the scent of whatever they ate. Well if this is the case it works because my dogs breath always smells horrible.
So sorry I can not help you with your problem, you could just try to punish him whenever he does that to your other dog, and maybe he will learn that is not acceptable behavior. Good luck!
