Sleep (And the lack thereof)

I work odd hours, 430 am to 1130am and as a result I have to sleep odd hours. So I've been trying to adjust my sleep schedule to match so that I'm not dragging at work and whatnot, yet the people I'm living with are making this very difficult. And when I've said something the response I got was "You'll just have to get used to it". On the rare occasion I've woken someone up accidentally? Yeah, go figure, I catch hell for it. Because other peoples' sleep is more important than mine.
And then because I didn't have to work today, it was apparently decided I didn't need all that much sleep. Things didn't quiet down until around 8pm, well after the time I should be in bed and asleep. And then about 15 mins ago I was rudely awakened by stuff being dropped/slammed/thrown/whatever in the room above me followed by stomping around. But heaven forbid I say anything.
Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it and with those who deny you sleep (whether intentionally or not)?
