Do you like snow?

February 1, 2009 2:38pm CST
Hi all, I popped to my local shop tonight and everyone is talking about the snow!! We don't have any yet... but for snow to lay on the island is sooooo rare that it really is a big deal to the people that live here. The weather people have said we will all get snow. We really want to believe them but they so often get it wrong. I am in Portland, Dorset UK and we think it is the sea air that prevents the snow ever laying here as countys all around are covered in the lovely dust we sit cold and wet but never white. I have been getting photos from friends all over England showing me the snow they were promised and that makes me smile but not as much as I would smile if it ever came to Portland! I want to make snow men and take pretty photos and make snow angels, it would be like being a kid again back in London. Of course there is always the draw backs of when it turns to slush but hey its worth it. What do you think? do you dred the snow or welcome it? Hugs to all Sammy x

The meaning of my daughter's name is like snow.when she was born, her skin was so white and her lips were red.so my husband named her as snow.Except this reason,i also like the snow.i remembered that i went to see the snow sight of west lake with my roomates when i was in university.and my husband went together. That time he was my classmate. To our surprise,we can marry.Still now i also remember that day which was christmas day.we were going to see the snow sight of west lake.

It's not so much a like/dislike question for me. I always appreciated the snow back home (New York) because it meant money. While people were curled up in their houses, my friends and I would grab shovels and hit the streets early. you could make a nice chunk of change shoveling peoples walkways, driveways and sidewalks. A lot of people aren't able to do so on there own but would pay, quite handsomely to have it done. In New York if someone was to slip and fall outside you property because of the snow, you could be fined, so people were happy to pay for the service. Now since I have moved to the South, I find that it doesn't snow as often (or at all sometimes) and even the threat of snow causes the city to shut down. They are so soft down here!! If the weatherman even thinks it will snow, they shut down schools and businesses, while in New York I remember trooping to school in three feet of snow! And school was OPEN!!! Besides that who doesn't love a good snowball fight?

Thats crazy, being fined because someone fell over outside your house, but then i guess it makes people sort out their bit of snow. It is good that it helped you out with a few dollars tho. Still no snow here:(

I'd make about $200 in a morning of shoveling. That kind of money could really come in handy now!

Well, for me who has not felt or touch a snow, then it would be exciting to have it. But from what I have heard about some of the problems it has caused, It makes me think twice. I live in the Philippines and there is no snow here so it definitely makes me curious. I have traveled abroad but mostly on summer so I am still waiting for the day that I would be able to experience such.
4 Feb 09
Yes it does cause troubles if you need to travel any distance but it only last a couple of days in most of the UK so I think it is worth it. :)x

Sometimes, I would like a little snow, but it seems like we just keep getting ice here. I like to play in the snow, though it is annoying if you have somewhere you must go.

Yeh we only get cold and ice also. It hard to travel in but fun for playing in :)x

I love snow but alas! I live in Australia and we are on the coast of Western Australia so we don't see snow here, ever. I grew up in Italy until I was 10 and I remember going skiing in Switzerland as we lived in the North of Italy near the border. I had a wooden sleigh until mum and dad bought me skis for Christmas one year, it was great fun but we immigrated to Australia when I was 10 and I haven't seen snow since.

Ah poor you, still no snow here on the island, it has snowed but never enough to settle boo~hoo :)x

Hi Sammy_pink! Well I am from Nepal and we too don't have snowfall here. Yes only at some high altitudes there are, but that only happens when there in rainfall in the winter time. But this winter, we are not having any rain and we are going to the shortage of water. I wish it rained and snowfall take place. But winter has already start to move away and there is very less chance of rain and snowfall this year even in the high altitude. To see the snowfall, two years before I had gone to Phulchowki, the high altitude where snowfalls winter rain. Well there were thousands of people going there. Luckily we started too early and got chance to move freely up. It took us about 5 hours to reach the top of the hill. At first I enjoyed a lot for the first time in snow. Yes we made snow man too. But I was getting tired and wondered when I would reach home. But when we returned, ufff there were many number of people climbing up and so the main road was blocked and had to take the difficult path down. Also due to the melting of snow the lower regions were too dirty muddy. But overall it was very much interesting. I can never forget. I wish sometimes we too had snowfall here in the main city. Not more, but sometimes, everyone here would enjoy.

Hi Nzalheart, What an interesting responce! You sound like such an interesting person. I am sorry you have little rain in Nepal, tomorrow at at work (a school) I will get all the children to do a rain dance for Nepal. I am pleased you had chance to make a snow man, that sounded like one hell of a climb. I keep my fingers crossed for both of us to recieve snow or even just plain old rain x

HATE IT! I used to love it when I was still in the Philippines and dreamed of White Christmas. Back then I thought that snow is cool [literally and figuratively]. I love to see pictures of winter because they look so pretty. When I finally came here in 2007 my first winter was so perfect. I finally experienced my first white christmas. I love the scenery it's picture perfect especially after a snow storm. This year, we had ice storm and lots of snow storm. And this year... I finally drove in slushy... icy... and slippery winter roads... I had a car accident due to that. I thought I would miss Christmas. But God is Good and my guardian angel is watching me. My hubby and I survived that almost fatal car accident... but my car was totaled. That is why, every time it will be announced that we will have another snow storm... I feel edgy and scared because the traumatic experience keeps coming back.

I am so sorry to hear that, fate was with you that day:)x

I like when it's snowing but I don't like afterwards, it could be a pretty bad disaster for the snow turns to be ice.

Its true, but it never last for long really and we move on to the next season, keeps us on our toes :)x

I used to love snow. Then I lived in a ski resort community for 4 years (Mammoth, California). I've now seen all the snow I need to see for the rest of my life! One year we still had enough snow to ski on July 4. They closed down after that day for annual maintenance but were able to open again in September. After spending months with that much snow, I'll gladly live without it. Besides, when the tourists came to visit they did not know how to drive on it (particularly the people from LA) and it became hazardous just to go to buy groceries).

Yes I can imagine how you never want to see snow again :)x

it was snowing earlier this morning but not heavy. i like snow, it is nice to look at with the snow man and sleigh and kids playing with it. in contrast do not like it coz of the weather, too cold. after the snow, the streets are very wet and dirty.

I also hate the cold but we should get something for being so cold:)x

We have so much snow where I live. I'm from Canada. yesterday it was mild out and it looked like it was going to start melting, which some of it did, but now I see it's suppose to start snowing again tonight. It snowed all friday and saturday. I'm about 5'5" and some snow banks are way taller than me. And if I were to walk on my lawn, the snow would come up to my knees. I don't mind it though. It does look pretty.
3 Feb 09
Wow thats snow to dream of...I know it does end in a mess causing problems but it does look good. Can't imagine snow banks on that scale, fab :)x

i love the snow when i havent got to drive in it. i live in the south east of england just near the M25 motorway and its up to about 6 inches at the moment , which when you think about it, it nothg compared to what they get in usa and canada !! but everything grounds to a halt , there are no buses in london at the present time. they have shut some of the roads near where i live. i am fortunate today, as this is a day off from work. i have to go to work tomorrow, and once again i am fortunate enough to live within walking distance of work. i live about 2 miles away. i am a right wimp when it comes to driving in the snow , i am terrified so either my partner drives me or i walk !! i went out last night with the dog, and it was quite weird. it was so white outside and the sky was full of snow, so although it was about 10.30 at night, it was like daylight, i was even able to see our local neighbourhood fox doing her nocturnal rounds about 2 oclock this morning.

Hi Margerydaw, I used to live near the M25. I love walking in the snow at night, your right about how it plays with the light. x

Snow is a part of winter where I live :) I like the snow since it gets much brighter during the dark season. I laugh a bit sometimes for people getting sad or happy for getting some snow - you could have mine for a few weeks if you like.

Myself, I love the snow. I have been an avid skiier for years now. When I was a child I made snow men and an igloo. I used to throw snow balls at the girls at school and got the strap for doing this. I used to love going tobagganing down the snowy hills. That's what it is like here in Canada. Crocket.
2 Feb 09
That all sounds like so much fun apart from the bit about the strap~ouch! What we have to remember is: What goes around comes around. So the person that carried out the deed of strapping you and many more I imagine, they will get theres! x

Of course it is different thing to see snow once in a lifetime and see it on a daily basis and "wrestle" with it. But the fact remains that I love snow very much. In fact I love such cold climes.

I live where snow is every weather. But this year is been to cold to even enjoy the snow. I like the snow when i falls. Is so white and glammer in the sun light. It makes everything look new again. Well, for awhile anyways. The one thing I like most about the snow is that I can be a kid for awhile. I enjoy getting out there in play in the snow with my kids. And they get to see a different side of me. The snow holds wonderful memory with my kids, however they are not going to be around for ever. They will grow up so it gives me something to remember them by when they grow up and move out of the house, and I hope it gave them wonderful memory of me too.
2 Feb 09
So true, I am just like a kid when there is promise of snow. Gives us all a reason to play out :)x

I want to see and feel snow. I'm from two seasons county, there's no snow, no fall. I want to try ice skating and touch the snow. I like the white color of the snow, well actually snow doesn't have color. I think snow make romantic moment, when you walking with your boyfriend or husband in the snow. Hopefully I'll feel that snow someday and have fun with it. Although it is cold, I want to feel it :D

I to hope you get to see and feel snow one day :)x
