that you are smarter than anybody? I dont think I am smarter than anybody, but I am smart. I think people know different things and they are smart in different ways and that it is foolish to underestimate anyone, ever. You might know more about astrophysics or whatever, but they might know more about history, or language or bio chemistry. There are some people on here that think they are so much smarter than anyone else, just because they think they are all cynical and brooding. Are you one of those people that thinks you are smarter, or that people are smart in their own way?

I don't think that I'm smarter than everyone else but I'd have to say that I may be smarter than other people. But each person has his or her own strength. And besides, being "smart" can mean you're good with what you've learned at school or it can mean that you're basically "smart" in the decisions that you make. Or sometimes you know you're smart, but still make mistakes anyway. It totally depends, I think.
I don't think there's one person who should be more superior than another person.

When I was younger I belonged to this church youth club that involved us going on camping trips and the like. There was a man who was a leader of a club in Brooklyn named Gaylord. I never forgot what he said cause he changed my thinking that day. And the thing he said was this. No one on this earth is smarter than anyone else. Now, I found that a bit untrue at first because I knew folk who could talk a mean game and have you thinking it's true, but as time moved on, I realized that some folks use their heads better than some and that's that. We all have the potential to be smart but most of the times we hold ourselves back bottom line. I know a guy and he was in special education in school, but he make more sense than most because he makes candles and have a clientele. I bought one from him Friday. So I know better.

No I dont think I'm smarter then anyone because no matter how much I think I might know theres always room to learn more, and its really imposable to know everything and each person is smart in there own way for example if one person is good at something and other person is not that dosent mean they aren't smart it just means the other person is good at something else, and that there smart in other ways I think that even people that might be considered dumb in our society still has something to contribute to the world like some form of nolidge that one person may not know, just because a person may be able to read or right better then the next person dosent necessarily make them smarter or if they can solve a math equation quicker then next person dosent really mean there smarter, I think there is more to defining someones intelligence then that and we should never consider ourselves smarter then anyone in the world because once we do that we close ourselvs off from learning anything new and we distance ourselves from people that may not fit our ideas of intelligence.

Yes and no. Everybody is smart in their own way. But I consider myself smarter when I hear of somebody buying themselves a pop and eating out every day, then complaining about not being able to pay their rent. I consider myself smarter when I hear a friend complaining about not being able to pay their rent, yet they just went to the cinema and saw a new movie and rented 5 movies that night. I haven't been to the cinema in years. I only rent movies when I've got all my bills paid and something saved.
I don't consider myself smarter overall, just in instances of control.

yeah, I can't bear people that moan about not being able to afford things when they waste their money.

I actually have this discussion with my kids quite often. I have one child that is book smart and another that is more of a hands on smart kid (builds stuff, etc). I am constantly telling them that it isn't that one is more intelligent than the other, but that they excel in different areas. Since my oldest tends to get a bit prideful about all of his book smarts I also remind him that no matter what you do there is probably someone who knows more than he does. I don't want to squash him, but people (and children) who think they know it all really need a wake up call sometimes.

it's true, they need to know because it can be quite shocking for a child or an adult to find out they aren't the best and they dont always take it well, especially adults.

It's not a question of thinking of yourself as smarter than other people but it is important that you think highly of yourself, only don't blurt it out for the world to hear! Now that I think about it though, everyone is smart in their own way. There will be things that one person can do and another cannot do, that's not to say that they cannot do it though, they just have to apply themselves. I like to think that I am intelligent, this is all part of the positive thinking process. It's good to think good things about yourself. Happy my lotting. Andrew

Being cynical and brooding doesn't make you smarter-it just makes you a drag to be with. I really dislike people who think they are so much better than others. So you know a lot, big deal! It doesn't make you a better person. I always say that it is very unfortunate when all the education in the world can't make you a better person.
You are right that people know different things and that it is foolosh to underestimate people. Afterall, who knows? The people we underestimate may turn out to be more successful than we are in the future?

I do not underestimate myself because i have been good in everything i picked up in life.I was good in my studies, good in my job that is why i always get a pay raise more frequent than my peers and on personal front also i have been doing well.
But i do not think that i am out smart.Though i consider myself intelligent and i think have fair presence of mind but i do not compare myself with anybody.
To compete with oneself is the biggest challenge for me and i always follow my instincts.

thats good that you dont compare yourself, comparing ourselves to others is very dangerous and a waste of time.
