Would the world Governments let us know the end was coming?

A huge asteroid is going to hit the earth in four weeks (its not dont panic -well as far as i know its not). The worlds top Government scientists have spotted it and there is nothing that can be done. Its 100% deff that the end of the world is coming. We have 4 weeks left. Would the people with the information lets us all know or would they keep quiet to avoid the mass panic?

Didn't they make a movie about this sort of thing? Knowing the way a government behaves, they probably wouldn't tell us. However, this sort of thing would have a way of leaking out to the newspapers, and undoubtedly would be known by all before too long. The government would probably try to explain it away, so maybe half of us would think we're ok, the other half wouldn't believe a word the government said. It would be interesting to see what people would really do, knowing that all would be finished. Would the churches suddenly fill up? It wouldn't do any good to go and buy all this food and survival gear, and stock up like that. Still, I'll bet the government would get the President underground, along with other so-called important people. Personally, I'd prepare my close family and friends, talk to them about it. It would be very sobering to be sure. I mean, there'd be no place to run to, or hide. I do wonder what 6 billion souls would do.

Well I think the government will inform everybody about it if it could be know. It is their responsibility to inform their citizens about it. But I doubt the governments could do anything if this will be done in a very short of time. Especially when this things happen in a large magnitude like that.

you think the governments would really risk loosing control as police/army/everyone starts heading to there family`s and the criminals start running riot?

Um I doubt the government would let us know since I think that it will be unexpected but for one reason I dont think the government would want us t know is because of all the pandemonium that would happend people would be rioting. And everyone would be out of controll so thats why I dont think the government would warn us.

I think garden shed star gazers would spot the problem and try warning us, do you think the governments would 100% say no nothing is wrong? even as the worlds media starts investigating?

as well as the first response, i would almost know the government would not tell us anything about an asteroid. Panicking nation and worldwide slows the thinking process of how to assess the situation. On the other hand though, if there was no possible way of averting the asteroid, the last week, i would hope they would tell us.Only outbreak of this information before that one week period would be of private nature. either that or maybe if we could see it in the sky at night.i like that question =]
