I got a private message from a myLotter asking me to please proofread my discussions before posting them. Now, I am sorry, but that it just rude. I had maybe 4 typo's in the post in question I will admit. Every one makes typo's. The typo's I made did not make the post any more difficult to understand. At least I didn't think so. Have you ever gotten a rude private message from a myLotter about anything?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Like you said we all make typos. I don't think they should have messaged you about it, seems like a bit of an extreme measure. I know I wouldn't do that to someone. So far no rude messages from anyone on here but then again I'm still fairly new.

That was rude! Plus mylot says in their site that they don't want anyone to make comments about somebody's grammar or spelling because they want everyone to feel welcome. If the typos bothered the person so much well then they should have skip your discussion and went to the next discussion with no typos. Everyone makes them and I personally don't think it's big deal in a form where everyone just discuss about everything that pop up in their heads. So far I haven't had that happen to me but if it were to happen I would simply delete that person's PM because it's childish. It's has if they had nothing else to say, but comment on your typos.

I have never gotten a message liek that before. I myself have made many typos. With no way to edit our posts. It is hard not to make a typo. Espically with my bad eyes. It is against the rules for pointing bad spelling and such out. So, if they send you one again. Just report tham. They are being mean and having read the rules.

So, did you.
I do tend to type some of the letters backwards. That is bad eyesight because they read the same to me. Lol.

That is definitely rude! Especially since there are many users on this website that are not native English speakers! It even says in the MyLot Guidelines: "Do not post discussions, responses or comments criticizing members for bad/broken English or bad spelling. Everyone is welcome at myLot, we have users from all around the world and they are welcome regardless of their proficiency with the English Language." While it doesn't necessarily say "typos" specifically, I would say typos are similar to bad spelling!
I'd say the only time it is appropriate to say something about someone's typos, grammar, spelling, etc. is if you really don't understand what they're saying. And then instead of saying "You need to proofread this." you should specifically point out the part you didn't understand and ask for a clarification.
I haven't had any rude messages from MyLotters... at least not that I remember. I usually try not to let rude remarks and comments get to me, so I often forget if someone does say something!

Sometimes it makes me wonder whether this is a networking site or an English forum, where people complain about others' grammar and typo errors. We are here to learn, especially the non-natives; so why can't some people be more tolerant? So, Lilybug, ignore them, and have a good day!

I think for the most part with just a little bit of effort you can figure out what people are trying to say even with the typo's and the poor grasp some myLotters have of the English language. I sometimes laugh about typo's, but I never complain about them.

I've never had such a message. But I've responded to many of your discussions and I've never seen typo's which has made it difficult for us to understand your post. I have seen many really funny discussions where I cannot understand what the poster was trying to say.
If this person has sent you a message, they have to be in your friend list, right?
It could be that they sent the message with a good intention. Do you know this person well? Only you can be a judge of how the message was put across to you...if it was really rude or trying to help you out.

I'd ignore it. Sounds like someone just struggling to come up with discussion topics to me. Or just having a bad time, feeling rotten. And they want someone to feel rotten too. Don't give them the satisfaction!

Not yet, but that is pretty rude. I know I make typos all the time, everyone does. I have seen a lot of bad grammer on here as well, but that is from people from different countries who are not as familiar with our language but still try really hard, and I respect them for that. It would be really rude to tell them to proofread their discussions. I have been on, online sites where writing is involved for several years, and I have always hated the grammer police. I have however made a couple of funny typos, one time I accidently typed something about going to a boob store. Obviously that was not what I intended to say. I also pointed out to someone on a site that they had refered to their dog witt an n before the g. This made for very amuzing reading as well.

Well if your couple typos bother them, then what are they going to do when they see a discussion from someone who doesn't speak english very well? I'm very used to typos, and am good at trying to understand the post through the typos, but even I can barely understand some discussions on here from the people that don't know English very well.
I don't recall ever getting a rude private message, but if I did, I'd delete the person from friends most likely.

Maybe they have a teacher complex. Perhaps they do that to everyone even in person. The need to correct people. At least they didnt do it publicly (however that is spelled). But still these people do not know how imbarrising or irritating that is.

That is rude!!! I can't believe how rude people are. I don't know why this person would even care. You're right. Everyone makes typos. Heck I do all the time. I have never received a rude private message before, but if I did I would be hella pissed. So did you say anything back to this person?

I happen and hope to never. That was very rude of that person!! It is probably one of those people everyone is talking about. Bein here just to be mean to other people. I wouldn't take it personal, just know you are better than them. Everyone makes typos and you still know what they are trying to say. It don't give anyone the right to tell you to proof read before you post. You should have replied by telling them to think about what they are typing before they type. But then that probably would have got them going and they wouldn't leave you alone. It is just best to ignore them. Don't worry about your posts no one minds typos we all have them.

If this user had to count my spelling mistakes in my discussions he would create a new dictionary. I would not take care of what he says. It is against mylot rules to criticize someone about his language skills. I have not got a private message regardng this matter but if I would it would end up in the trash bin immediatedly.

Don't worry about it lilybug, some people need more to do in their lives. I consider myself a decent speller and yet I have made typos in the past. I admire those people who don't have English as a first language and get out there and respond and start discussions the best way they know how; who cares if they are not always grammatically correct! We would be the same if we had to write in their language! Grrr! It makes me so mad that someone can be so petty!

i agree with you that is quite rude, not everyone here can write english in the correct manner, grammatically and its spelling...and if you it is understandable you do not have to correct it...but so far no one has ever given me a private message that is rude
