on yellow light... speed up or slow down?

I was taught to slow down. But if I was stuck in traffic and I probably will for more than half an hour then I might just beat the red light just to save a few minutes. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I generally speed up. Several years ago I was rear-ended at a light when the person behind me wasn't paying attention and didn't notice that the light had changed and that I was slowing down. They slammed into me, pushing me into the car in front of me. Now I have a fear of being rear-ended!

Oh. I usually speed up because we have crazy drivers here in the Philippines. And when you slow down, once the light becomes red, who knows what will bump you into with.

It depends. If i am very near the crossroads, I speed up but not before i check if there is somebody who is so much in hurry in the other lanes. If i am still far from the crossing, i do slow down because it would be inviting an accident to try to beat the red light.

Yellow lights are, seriously, one of my weaknesses. I don't have a problem with traffic lights on a slow and busy street but when you're going 55 mph on a back road and all of sudden you see a green light and you worry that it might turn yellow soon so should you still be going that same speed or be slowing down. I think it depends on how safe it will be for you to be able to cross the street. If you can't slow down then go through the yellow light. But when it's already yellow and your car is still a few feet away, then people, slow down and heed the color to stop! I, for one, tend to wait three seconds to move on a green light as I have had in numerous occasions cars wheeze by even if their light is already red.

It depends on how close I am from the light. If I know I can stop without having to slam on brakes I will try to stop. But if I'm right at the light when it changes then I speed up.

It depends on how close I am to the light but mostly i would slow down. That's wise since its only a few seconds. Better safe than be sorry.

Usually I will wait until the traffic light turns to green light again. I don't want to take a risk if I am not in a hurry. I love China

I dun drive, but i guess it all depends on the distance.. If i'm near to the traffic light, i will speed up.. But if i'm quite far from it and yet i think i can make it, i will still speed up, and at the same time, making sure there's no speed camera to catch me too.. lol =D Traffic lights in singapore has got no countdown system, and thus it's hard to gauge which is the safest distance to speed or slow down.. hehe ^_^

today in my town, the traffic light have been modernity. It added a timer beside the traffic light. So I will speed up when the number show 5. Most the people in my town do the same. Sometimes I feel little scare with what I done. But it's all about the time. I don't want to waste the time stopping my bike and waiting the traffic light become green again. keep post happy myLotting...

I always try to stop on a yellow light if I can. There are too many accidents with people trying to beat the light. It's not worth it.

[i][/i] It depends on the position of my car. Of course I couldn't stop immediately below the traffic light when it would turn yellow. I could of course stop when it turn yellow if I would be a little far away from the traffic light to avoid collision...thanks..helpful topic

i usually speed up...not good huh? if it just turned yellow that's when i'll go through if it's been yellow i'll slow down. hopefully you're not a cop. haha

On a yellow light, you better be slowing down to avoid any unnecessary accidents on the road. It's much safer that way, I think.
