I don't think Valentine's Day is corny at all. Maybe those who will say that are people who find making others feel loved at a certain day as corny will view Valentine's Day as corny. Of course we can show our love everyday, but take your birthday, you can always be happy that you were born and you can celebrate it everyday if you want to. But you won't celebrate your birthday that way, right? Valentine's day is like that, it's a special day set to focus on making things special for loved ones.

There are times when I don't see the point in celebrating the holiday. To me it is just another day that doesn't have much meaning to me because I can still show my boyfriend I love him and adore him any day of the year and I don't need V-day to do it. I think it puts too much pressure on some couples to do something special.

I don't see the point either. Valentine's Day is just this big man-made holiday that makes single people feel terrible for not having someone. There is this huge hype on being with someone and having a Valentine on that day that those who don't have someone can get depressed.

I don't think it's corny but then again, I really don't go for that stuff anymore. It's a free world, right? And anyone can do with Valentine's day however they want it. Cheers!!

I don't find Valentines Day corny. It's the day that most lovers wait for aside from their anniversaries/monthsaries. I consider it as a very special day that must be celebrated. Last year, I even gave my mom a dozen of roses! So it's not just a day for our partners, but for our parents also.

I think Valentines day is great! I understand that it can be a hard holiday for people who are not in a relationship, but I don't think that it has to be about "Romance." As a child I loved to prepare treats for all of my classmates and friends. It was just an excuse to tell my friends that I cared about them. As an adult, it is a chance to send some cards to old friends and do something nice for my family. Now that I'm married, it is no longer romantic dinners for two... now its a dinner for three... me and my two favorite guys, and I wouldn't trade it for the world! I really love that it follows friday the 13th this year... I was married on a Friday the 13th.... so its a nice reminder.

I think celebrating Valentine's Day is a ridiculous practice. Most people don't even seem to know who St. Valentine was or why we celebrate on February 14. February 14 was chosen because it is (roughly) the beginning of the mating season for most birds. How romantic is that?! St. Valentine was a Christian/Catholic priest who was burned at the stake for officiating the marriage ceremonies of soldiers in the (primarily Pagan) Roman army. The Emperor felt that being married distracted the soldiers from their duties and therefore outlawed marriage for them. But St. Valentine (who at that time was just Valentinus, no "Saint" yet) felt that love could not be denied and so he held private, secret and illegal wedding ceremonies. Legend says that after he was burned, his heart lay in the ashes, still beating....thus, the heart symbol for St. Valentine's Day. The point that I am trying to make here is that we celebrate this day, which a lot of people don't even understand, by giving our significant others candy (fat, calories, cavities) and flowers (allergies, bugs...and they die) and spending absurd amounts of money on romantic dinners. I think that romance and showing your significant other that you love and adore them should be 365 days of the year and we shouldn't have to be told to do it. I guess if I find a guy who is super gung-ho about celebrating it I won't be horrible about protesting it but since those guys are few and far between, I'm not going to get pissy if he doesn't want to celebrate with a big expensive dinner or some absurd activity like ballroom dancing that he wouldn't do on any other day of the year.

Yes, I think valentines day should be celebrated, specially if you have a special someone. It is of course great if you can be sweet everyday but for those who are always busy at work they should consider doing something special on this day for someone they love.
