I prefer putting it on Silent mode. But even then my phone vibrates and I'm obligated to take a peep at the message to make sure that it's nothing important. It disturbs the flow of the movie, but I feel responsible for responding to the text messages sent to me...although if they are unimportant then I refrain from replying until after the movie.

Hi~! Well, I usually keep my phone in silent/vibrate mode when in public so I guess it doesn't really make that much of a difference if I'm a movie house. I, like you, try to ignore text messages too but then, when it gets to a boring part (few movies don't have them), I get tempted enough to sneak a peek and answer a text message or two. I try to cover the screen of my phone, though, so I won't be bothering my seatmates with the light.

I usually put my cell phone on vibrate during a movie. My husband would freak out if I were to even peek at my phone during a movie. If I feel my phone start to vibrate I get up and go to the bathroom to check who called. If I think its important I will call the person back to make sure. Usually its not important and ill just go back to watching the movie. Its not really to bad of an inconvience because it gives me an excuse to take the bathroom break that I normally need.

My cell phone is always off, until I need to use it. I do not keep my cell phone on because I have it in case I have to make an emergency call to my husband. Anyone that needs to speak to me can call me at home on my land line.
I think if you are going to the movies, restaurant, church etc. the phone should be turned off. If you want to talk on the phone, then you should not go to these venues. I was at a restaurant the other day and a man was on his cell phone the whole time talking loudly. It is a distraction to everyone around, plus it is rude.
Texting is different, I do not text, although I think if the phone is on vibrate and it is texting done, it does not disturb anyone, although why go to the movies and spend your time texting instead of watching the movies. Just my opinion.

The only time my cell phone is on is when I'm making a call. I don't like talking on the phone, so I'm not going to turn the cell phone on unless I just have to. I get too many unsolicited calls on the land line. I sure don't want to get more on the cell phone.

hey, i am very like you. i also put my phone in silent mode but i can't stand myself checking on the text messages everytime it vibrates! when i check it, the light illuminating from the phone itself would also be distracting to others so i just check my phone inside my bag to limit the light and the disturbance it will cause to other people watching. he he he .. cheers, oyenkai! :)

Hi there!
No, I don't switch off my phone when watching movies but I just put it in silent mode and vibrating mode just incase someone will call me or send me an important message. I don't feel like turning off my phone because I am always thinking that someone may be calling me for emergency or etc. When someone sent me a text message, I read it then if I know that I don't have to reply on them, I will not bother replying.
Thank you for the discussion. Happy Mylotting and Have a great day! Cheers!

Hello oyenkai
I dont turn off my celphone but I do put it on silent mode so that other moviegoers won't be disturbed if somebody calls me or when I receive a message. Sometimes, I read messages while the movie is on going, but at least it's my choice and I don't disturbed others.
have fun

I always switch mine to silent (not like it rings all that often!). I noticed last time we went to a movie how many people let their phones ring and I found it quite obnoxious. It seemed like every two minutes there was someone running to the lobby to talk of their phone; or even worse talking in the theatre.

I always turn off my phone when I go see a movie. First of all, it is sooooo rude if the phone rings in the middle of a movie (I hate when other people's phones ring) and I would be very embarrassed if mine went off. Second, the whole point of going to a movie would be to relax and lose yourself for a few hours, so unless I'm expecting a very important phone call (like my brother's wife having a baby) I would just TURN OFF the phone (otherwise I'd just put it on vibrate so if it was a call I needed I just could run out of the theater and answer it or call them back.
XOXO

I agree with ms. oyenkai we should be sensive enough for other viewers who paid money for relaxation. it should either be switched off or put into vibrating mode. I hate ringing phones inside a movie house.it distracts the flow of your attention.
