Which is Tough - Discussion Starting or Responding to Discussions?

India
February 2, 2009 9:48am CST
I feel Starting Discussions is Tough.Especially Quality Discussions. One day my friend said me that he wished to start 100 discussions in a single day & he asked me some ideas.I think of helping him by giving only quality discussions. but my mind went blank after thinking about 9 discussions. but giving opinions(responding discussions)is not tough like this.I had done even 150 posts in 9 hours during my office works. Okay Friends.. What do you think on your minds? Discussion Starting or Responding Discussions? Which is Tough? Even though I say Responding discussions is easy for me, I will give my reply mostly to quality discussions. How about you friends?

Neither is difficult for me. Only thing is when I am here on mylot I should have complete peace and my mind should be able to concentrate fully. I can always start a new discussion and can respond to discussions on various subjects. I enjoy doing both. But if you ask me to strictly compere the both, I would say that 'responding' is a bit easier of the two tasks.

Thanks for your kind words. You are right sometimes,I get huge number of responses to my discussions, it may due to many factors, such as my long list of 'active' and dear friends. I respond to my friends' discussions regularly and I start discussions on such topics, which are easier to respond.

yes..you have mutual understanding with your long list of active dear friends.. I came to know that with your replies for others and also reading some of your discussions. You are nearly a separate gang like.. Isn't it? Your friend circle is a cool and great circle where everyone is great and lovely in some manners. I too waiting for one circle of friends similar to my age. but my age peoples are not so positive and broad minded. so still I lack with this thing as many are fake. you know, for getting responses, i saw some profile with girls name & age similar to mine.1 user itself later stated me that he is a boy and for earning money sake, he does like this. some peoples had also asked me a "BEST RESPONSE exchange" once a day. Shocking peoples.. with funny stupid things.. these works are done by peoples who are with my age.. So i better trust "Senior peoples" who are also regular and can teach some values of moral to my age persons. Hopefully, you are one of that person..

Yeah.. i know that you discuss on various subjects & each of your discussions responses are always great in numbers.I always wonder how you get that much responses every time. and yes.. 'responding' is a bit easier of two tasks. anyone can start discussions. but "getting responses" is the main factor. & you are very perfect in playing that role. Thanks for sharing your comments here.. I wish you to have peace all through your life. Happy Posting! Rag

I also think starting discussion is tougher, that's why I haven't start a new discussion for quite some time now and its also because I don't have any idea in my head. But I guess it's also depends in our mood when do mylotting, because there are times that I'm just not in the mood.

Hi cjay.. How are you and Egypt? anfd from your response, yes.. you are right.. "Mood" plays a great factor here. For Best results, I too avoid mylotting when i am abnormal or not feeling good. That causes extra stress for us.. So have a nice time friend.. Thanks for your Response..

Mostly I respond to discussions and that is a time factor issue for me as due to my work committments, I am often away from home. What it does mean is that I can respond to my friends' discussions in word and then cut and paste them into myLot when I get online. It would be much harder if I have started a discussion and then need to read and comment on the responses that I receive. The other thing is that, for me, it is often very hard to think of a discussion that has not already been started by someone else. Already there are a lot of repeat discussions here on myLot and I do not want to add to that number if I can possible avoid it that is. Your friend who wanted to start 100 discussions in a day is being unrealistic because it is very hard to think up that number and still make them a good quality discussion that others will want to respond to. How on earth was he going t find the time to read all the responses, make comments where appropriate and also give our best responses. Okay so maybe with that number of discussions he would only get a small number of responses to each of them. It is highly likely that many of them would receive no responses at all which is why he is better off starting few discussions at one time. There are many members like I am in that if we see a member who does not make a comment to any of the responses received for their discussion, we simply do not respond. The reason is that we have no idea whether our responses are being read or not, and there are plenty of other discussions to respond to.

This is a discussion forum and so it always amazes me that a lot of members do not discuss things. Okay so someone starts a discussion and others respond to it but that is not a discussion unless there is some folow up. If I didn't bother to make counter comments to some of the comments received for my responses, then my actual posts would be a lot higher. However, it would not be as much fun and nor would I learn as much as I do from other members. It shal be interesting to know if you friend is able to start 100 new discussions in one day and how many of them actually receive at least 1 response. It would take me at least 2 weeks to make a response to every one of his discussions and perhaops longer.

Hi Oldboy.. Excellent comments from you.. You had told me, what all in my mind as your comments. in that 100 discussions in a day, i told him to give to give quality discussions first. but later i changed my mind and told him not to give 100 discussions in a single day because all users dont have enough time to respond plenty of discussions. i said the same as you said.. many of the discussions will not get any responses then. but i told him to give by sepearting that 100 into 5 quality discussions a day. but he is not willing. he says me that he wants to do record as i i did 150 posts in a day before.. so we leave him.. let us wait and see whats going to happen.. next, you had well said that if we see a member who does not make a comment to any of the responses received for their discussion, we simply do not respond. The reason is that we have no idea whether our responses are being read or not? I agree with those lines.. Moreover, Respect is a common thing for everyone now. So its nearly like not bothering, if reply comment not given to the response we recieve.thats y people do not respond next time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. Have a nice time!

Both are not difficult for me but as i do have a very limited here i just choose to respond to a discussion as it would be easy for me. I can make my own discussion but it would be hard for to maintain it as i have only limited time. If you can observe, its been quite a long time since i started a discussion. Anyway, i think it would really depend on my availability and mood as well. I have lots of ideas to start a discussion but i'm just afraid i couldn't maintain as i have lots of unresolved discussion to resolve first due to my very limited time. Just sharing. Happy posting!

Hi Raghu, Generally, starting a discussion is tough because you need bright ideas for a successful discussion. Responding is easier than starting a new because ideas will be there you need to give your opinion about the subject. But at the same time if the subject is not familiar one then it is difficult to respond. For me starting discussion is tougher than responding because I am running out of ideas. To be honest I am running out of time too. I have written some topics but never started the same because I have to finish my works on discussions that I started already and selecting a BR tag is also pending.

Hi to my dearest mummu.. what happened to that pending work?BR given? I agree that Starting discussion is tough.. especially, with busy hours in work, it is possible to give response to any discussions just by thinking few mins. But in starting discussion case, we cannot do like that. we must spend time on Topic as well as the matter we wrote inside.. anyway, thanks for your response darling.. I love you so much my dear mum.. Takke nice care of you and your all three sons. if not i will come and pinch you.

I think starting quality discussions is tough. However, I think finding a quality discussion to respond to is even tougher So I think it is really easy responding to discussions because most of them are just common sense. I am not saying all of them are so I hope no one takes me the wrong way, but there are quit a few that have no quality to them at all it just questions you can tell someone just thought of off the top of their heads. I have started some of those myself, because there are times I just yearn to start a discussion, but can never think of any to start so I just put in whatever pops into my head.

Personally for the most part it is always harder to start a New discussion in here than to respond back to a discussion. I know that when it comes to responding back to a discussion that someone else has started it already gives you a thought to go on, and you can see how others feel as well. But when you start a New discussion it is up to you to find things that others would be interested in responding back too which many times can be quite hard to do for sure.

I believe that starting quality discussions is harder then responding. In order to start a quality discussion you need to take many things in account like what topic will be good to start on and how to start the topic to get people interested! Starting a quality discussion means that you need to get lots of good responses and that is really hard! So starting a discussion is way more harder then responding to a discussion.

Hey raghul, thanks for all the compliments man! I appreciate it a lot! Yea i have to agree, I love my country and although I haven't done anything or contributed in any way to India, I still would love to someday and prove myself a true patriot! I try to post comments and stuff but I was never successful in starting a good discussion! lol! Never really got time to do that or I have been really lazy, but I am going to try from now on! I have briefly gone through your profile too and your responses are very mature and perfectly executed! You also started lots of amazing topics! Thanks for all the compliments mate Have fun!

Hi raghul77ster. For me I find creating a new thread more tough than responding to people's discussions. Sometimes I think of a good thread yet found out later that someone had created it already. Normally I just make a new thread out of the blue, that means it depends of my mood. Good for you, you can respond 150 discussions in a day. My goal is to make at least 5 responses everyday, maybe thats why I got my first pay out 10months after I think I became a member here in mylot.

It will be tough to work on both, posting discussion and responding to discussions, IF your intention is purely to earn. But if you are doing them because you are enjoying it and learning from it, then they will be easy as eating peanuts
• India
4 Feb 09
yes.. in our intention is only to earn, then definitely it will be tough for us in doing either work. if we wish to have fun, both will be easier for us.. as well as in money earning program.anyway, starting qulity discussions and getting maximum responses is a little tough thing... from my view.. anyway, thanks for your response.. Have a nice time!

Depends on the types of discussions. I would go for quality discussions rather than quantity. Readable and enjoyable responses are the best. For me, there is no point in posting for the heck of posting. LOL!!! But I guess the kind of discussion would be of interest to you rather than to the majority. If you think that the particular subject was cool, but the others find it boring, don't be discouraged. The population of myLot is growing every minute and am sure one of the members would respond to the topic. Sorry if I was a bit off, going back to the topic at hand. Shall we say that a particular topic is of interest and one that would catch your attention, both starting and responding would be difficult. He he he! Saw a topic started by GADHISUNU about using alternative medicine, this topic is of interest to me but I can't seem to start with my response because I wanted to learn more about what in particular about alternative medicine he wanted to talk about. I should say that I had a hard time responding and ended up not doing it. On the otherhand, while browsing, I saw your discussion, I started typing as if it was my second nature. On the starting part, I would say that I also take my time in making quality topics. There were simple ones yet, I figured I should be more consistent with my ideas.

Hi Zorlone, nice to meet you here.. Are you a Doctor? and yes.. as you said, even i had seen some discussions with interesting topics. but i just read it instead of responding, when i lack knowledge in that particular topic. and thanks for responding here.. Like you, i too a quality poster than quantity. But having a idea in coming the list of top posters. I am happy with your response n sharing your mind completely. Have a nice time!

I tink that it is a lot harder to come up with a new discussion. I have never posted more than a few in a day and even then, I try to come up with ideas throughout the day. Usually I respond to as many discussions as I can but I still try to start some discussions.

yes.. i agree.. even if we start quality discussions easily, it is harder to get maximum responses.rarely some of my discussions got 20+ responses. other discussions lacks withi 10 rsponses and some are less than 5. anyway, thanks for your comments here.. nice to meet you. Have a nice time!

He is the only techincal wrestler that WWF ever had.. Current WWE is full of waste things.. with less skilled wrestlers..

wow... nice sayings.. "using the little to get the big" I really liked it. here if we have many friends and also we start ice cream discussions, then sure we earn for our responses. It is a great plus for us here by earning through the responses we recieve in our discussion. As you said, using the little to get the big.. Thanks for your response.. Have a nice time!

Starting new discussion is definitely more difficult and challenging. I don't see how others can start multiple discussions. I find that it takes a lot of time in order to come up with a good topic to discuss. Otherwise you just end up posting a question that is so ordinary that it become super obvious that you just wrote the question for the sake of posting a discussion. Anyway, I really like answering discussions in mylot. There are many to choose from all the time! :)

i think response to any discussion is tough. because here you try to give him good suggestion or answer to any discussion. you try to satisfy that person with your answer. other side on a discussion you give your feeling, question for more and more response. agian here some wants to give you a good respose is much harder than starts s new discussion
