I spent the afternoon at one of my co-workers' log cabin. Her husband and son in laws built it by hand. After the sleigh ride we went in and had soup and desserts! it was toasty warm, being warmed by a Ben Franklin wood burner. Inside was also a loft where her grandkids like to sleep. It was like being taken back in history! Have you ever been in a real log cabin? Would you ever like to live in one?

I have stayed in a cabin like that before while on vacation. It was great. I would love to have my own cabin like this, but I cannot afford it...

I probably won't ever be able to afford it. It is nice to rent one for a weekend or something every now and then though. You can actually have one of those built relatively cheap if you already have some land to put it on. Those kits aren't that expensive, and the companies usually have crews to assemble them for you. Maybe you should look into it...

Here in MN I can drive a hundred miles and see MANY log cabin homes actually.
Back in the late 70's there was a boom of them being placed on farm land etc.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I had a friend years ago in the A.A. club that owned a log cabin home in Mora MN. It was a 3 BR home and was so beautiful. It used to be a monthly visit at least for me to go up there to his home. It has always been a dream of mine to have one but.... Hahaha! They have kits now for Log homes. They drop the lkit off on the property and the logs etc are numbered for assembly like Licoln Logs. It's a shell of a home is all with walls having to be added etc but cheap actually at first.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Other than visiting a historical site that had preserved log cabins from the past, I've never been in a real log cabin. I remember at my grandmother's when I was a child, she would always let us watch a movie called The Wilderness Family. The family moved from the city to the country, and after that I always wanted to try it too. At least when I was a kid.

Did you take any pictures?, just curious.
I absolutely love log cabins. I feel so close to nature and cozy all over.
We stay in cabins when we go camping sometimes. Depends on how long we go for and I think they are the best. Would I like to live in one? Oh heck yes!! For sure...I would feel right at home with all the birds and animals surrounding me. Sounds like you had a very nice time.

I have been in a real log cabin. Several. We have one one a large lot over looking a lake.
Unfortunately, fire over took the cabin a few years ago by basically, a squatter.
It was a beautiful home. I am not sure the year it was built but could of been deemed historical. A two story with a spiral staircase, cold room, full bathroom, living area with a fireplace and bay windows looking over the lake, three bedrooms and a large wood and oil cook stove in the kitchen. All hard wood floors. I loved that place. I am so sad that it is no longer. So majestic, with such history and fond memories. It will be missed.

That log cabin sounds like a wonderful place to live. It sounds like you had quite a time.
I've been in 1 log cabin that some acquaintances in IL built. It was huge! And very nice. Oh, I've actually been in Abraham Lincoln's log cabin in Springfield, IL. It's in a park area there (or it used to be). That was many years ago, and it was tiny.
I don't think I'd care to live in one year round, but I think it would be fun to stay in one occasionally.

I have been in one that was for show, no one actually lived there. I would love to have a log cabin as you have discribed! I really think it would take a person back in time and it just seems like it would be so relaxing!

I have been in real log cabins that were built by the people. I think they bought a kit and everything was delivered and they built it themselves. It was wonderful and Yes I would Love to live in one. It has been a dream of mine for a long time. I really love the rustic feeling of that life style.

Don't think I've ever been inside a log cabin. They are great looking from the outside. Don't think I would like to live in one. Just don't seem real secure or warm or maybe I know nothing. I do like having more than one floor with the bedrooms upstairs. I am old and set in my ways..lol

Hi Jill,
Sounds like you had a very good time on your little adventure. I'm so happy for you! And yes I have been inside a log cabin, while on vacation. I loved being out in the wild with wild animals around in the morning. Birds were every where, ducks on the lake, wild deer coming in real close so you could touch them, it was awesome. I've always wanted to live in one. If I caould afford it and didn't have to work, I would love it. I wouldn't have to leave unless I needed to restock on supplies. Oh what a life!!!!
The sleigh ride sounds like fun too!! Was there lots of snow there? The scenery souns awesome too. I'm glad you had a nice day, my friend.
Have a nice day..
