We all know self medication is very dangerous thing and should not take any medicine without consulting a doctor first, yet we all in our family take medicines many a times without consulting a properly qualified doctor. My question is How many of you know self medication can be dangerous? 2) how many of you actually take any medicine without consulting a doctor? 3) The medicines if any you take without consulting a doctor , do u know their side effects and contraindication ( OTC drugs like Ibuprofen is not to be given to asthmatics and can cause Gastric bleeding in normal human beings)

I think there is a big difference between self medication and overdosing when people try to self medicate. It is a dumb move of people to take more than the directions say when they are not instructed to do so by their pcp. I know even when a doctor tells me to take more of somethign than directions state to do I will not do it. Currently I have an injured leg, and my doctor wants me to take Aleve 3 times a day, 2 pills each time. The directions specify NOT to take consume more than 3 capsules a day...so I am going against what the doctor says to avoid any possible harm the extra medication can have on my body.

did you read the article? overdosing is not always deliberate, what the instructions doesn't say and most people don't realize is that the bottle says maximum dosage per day, you could be taking that but taking other products that contain acetamenophen and not realizing you can't take, maximum on that too, for example have you ever taking tylenol when you had a cold and some cold medicine too, you will be overdosing, because most cold medicines have acetaminophen in it. this is not about dumb it is about not knowing

Yes that is right winterose that many people loose their life because of not getting doses right and about Aleve thunderstar i don't know what it has..but i had read in a pharmacology book that up to 1800 mg of ibu is safe to take by an adult when we say u shdn't be taking more than 3 times a day max 400mg.. so what he prescribed has lots of knowledge and experience behind it that how it would work in a given condition and he would definitely not over dose you... because prescribing you a dose is on paper and if he does wrong he is liable for huge law suit and his medical license may be canceled..
