Multiple Choice: Who Do You Think Is The Scumbag???
A) Michael Phelps:
Phelps has won a total of 48 career medals thus far: 40 gold, six silvers and two bronze.
He has won 14 career Olympic gold medals, the most by any Olympian.
Phelps was photographed smoking a bong, he immediately admitted to and apologized for his action.
will wonders never cease? a 23 year old smoking marijuana, a substance that if not for bureaucratic bullsh!t would be and should be LEGAL!
a substance which is safer than tobacco and alcohol both of which are legal.
a substance with proven health benefits.
For the record, Phelps has NEVER failed a drug test and even volunteered for additional testing during the Beijing Olympics to dispel any notion he was enhancing his performance.
B) The News of the World:
the British gossip rag which broke the Phelps story with "bong" photo included.
News of the World also broke the story of Prince Harry's underage drinking and drug use.
the royal editor of News of the World along with 2 associates, was arrested in August 2006 for allegedly tapping phones of members of the royal family, political figures and celebrities.
they have been sued by several celebrities and politicians.
C) the GREEDY photographer who Phelps was obviously comfortable enough to smoke a bong in front of at the COLLEGE PARTY where Phelps was letting loose after returning from his victorious Olympic trip in Beijing.

One of Phelps endorsers (is that a word?), Omega Watches released a statement regarding Phelps and this matter. They said, verbatim, "this is a private matter of no importance. What he does in his own time is his business."
I have to agree. It is a shame that once you are in the public eye, your entire life becomes scrutinized and publicized. I bet a lot of famous people would love some privacy in their lives. Phelps is a young guy with a lot put on his shoulders. He shouldn't be expected to be a role model for the world to follow in anything else but swimming. He shouldn't party because he is an Olympic Gold winner?
Anyway to answer this question, its a combination of B and C. At the same time though, Phelps should have used more discretion but he is a victim of his own celebrity.

your response is right on the money, and the party in question took place after the Olympics, so the way i see it is no harm, no foul.
the only thing i see him doing wrong was not noticing the person taking the picture, or if he knew of the picture, letting the person get away with it.

hmm well phelps i dont really feel sorry for in a sense that he is famous and should know that people are just waiting for him to screw up so if he wants to have his career he should know his life will not be normal or have the same rights.. yeah it sucks but its the truth..
yeah its annoying the news made such a huge deal out of it because he is young and young people need to enjoy youth but thats now the way it works unfortunately..
its screwed up that the photographer IF he was indeed portraying himself as trustworthy took it and made some bucks but well i dunno..
i prob sound awful but i think a lot of people seem to think they can have privacy and yet be huge stars and its not really all that possible especially if its like with him to where they make him out as a role model and etc.. if you decide to let yourself be protrayed as that then you have to make sure you keep your nose clean..
which is why im glad im not famous.. i want to be able to do what ever i want lol..

you don't sound awful moon, and you raise valid points.
we don't care what the guy that lives 2 blocks over that we don't know is doing behind closed doors.......as long as he isn't harming anyone.
likewise should we really care what the celebrity that we don't really know is doing behind closed doors...........as long as he isn't harming anyone?
unfortunately, a stalkerazzi that can sell a picture of a celebrity picking their butt, or smoking a bong for thousands of dollars shows that a lot of people really do need to know what a celebrity is doing at ALL times.

i would like to add that i think its bs because its pot and like you said its benificial for several things and if it wasnt for people in power with sticks up their butts it would be legal anyways.. my opinion would be more based on if it was something worse..

well I have to go with the write in vote
I say D) trolls final answer
I dont condone what Michael Phelps does BUT he is only human and just because he is an olympic gold medalist doesnt make him exempt from making bad choices
but out of the three options you gave I would have to say the photographer by far is the lowest form of scum

i agree with you.
there would be no issue at all if it wasn't for a greedy party goer with a camera.
so Michael Phelps was doing a little partying....big deal...he had just brought home record Olympic gold for The US.....i'd be partying too.
