Only today I noticed the no. on the star which on the left of my nick. What is the significance of the number? Anyone has idea about it?

It's the rating. The more + people rate you, the greater the star number. If you hover your mouse over the star, you will see your score too. for 100. You get it when you cross 100 posts, and I'm quite surprised you noticed it so late. Anyways, good luck maintaining it

I am surprised myself that I realised it so late. However, now that I've realised it I think I'll try to increase the number in my star. Thanks for the comment.

haha...after 1260 discussions you are asking the question.
i think it is your rating.when you respond ,people give a positive or negative rating to your response that is what the number stands for. it is out of 10.
the higher the number the higher your rating.
i think that's how it goes.

What you said is true. I think some people must have done that. I used to be surprised that some people have a very good rating though their posts don't seem to be that good. May be the reason is just as you shared.
