which path should I choose

I am a junior in high school. I'm either going to go to a college and study in music business and production and continue directly with that goal, or I'm going to major in that and continue being a drummer in bands. I figure that doing music business and production would be a little easier, but i love to perform so much. Which should I do?

Dear JacobLooby being a drummer and chasing your dreams is a great thing but discontinuing education is very bad idea indeed ... it is entirely possible that you continue honing your drumming and playing for band but along with that continue education in your field of interest.
Ofcourse when you become a rockstar that is make it big in your chosen field you can discontinue education like most artists do.

Yeah, I don't think my parents would be too happy if I didn't go to college, ha, or didn't finish. I hope I can make it far, and I probably won't quit until I have a for sure deal.

Oh this is a great discussion!!... first off I want to tell you I envy you the fact that you know what you want to do... as I was in high school (ok several years ago...LOL)..and when I graduated I said I wasnt going to go to college until I knew what I wanted to do... this year I have graduated 20 yrs ago... and now a mom of 2 kids, and a housewife... hmmm, they dont have a major for that. not that I am complaining, I love my life... I just wish I knew what I was good at and what I wanted to do.
I think both of your choices are very well... but I would suggest the first option, study music and business, while persuing the performing part if you can --even if it is just a little, as this way you have your feet wet in both aspects, and 2 doors open to you in a music career, and I think the music business will help you further down the road, and gives you something to expand with.... good luck in your choice though, you have to follow your heart!!!!

thanks so much. Music is something that i've loved for years now, and I found the major 2 years ago and showed a little interest in it, then my brother actually went to college for the exact same major. Now that I hear about the classes, I'm really interested in it.

interesting question.. im a college student. graduating this year. you really have to know yourself. feel in yourself what you really like. i think you should first get a degree on that field. yeah it's right that not all things are learned from school. but in this time,, you're poor to get a job when you have no degree.you can do things you like at the same time. to enjoy your college you should not deprive yourself from doing what you like to do best.. focusing so much on books will really make you feel uncomfortable going to school. so enjoy the school while enjoying the music.

Wow you have a great plan. I would advise you to think carefully what you want to do in your life. If you love to perform and confident that you can be a great musician, then go ahead with continue being a drummer in bands. If you think that your skill is probably in average, then you may consider the first plan. I am not sure whether you can still perform (of course not professionally) concurently with studying a music business and production. If yes, then it maybe another option for you.
