So the day before inauguration day, there was big talk here in Virginia that there was going to be at least 5 inches of snow the next day, so people were talking it up a lot. Because of the "possibility of snow accumulation", the school board canceled school the next day.
Turns out there was not even a single flake that day, and we got the day off.
The day that we missed was supposed to be spent studying for exams, but since we missed it, we took the exams, and now the next semester has started.
Here's where it gets interesting. The board wants us to make up the day this presidents day. A day that was supposed to be spent studying for exams we already has is being made up, for no reason really. Even the city next to us doesn't have to make up the day. We even have 183 school days when we really only have to have 180. So why are we still going for this day!?

really?? they are going to have you make up that day... that is crazy!!!
I have a friend who is in VA and her kids were out that day due to the "snow day"...and she said there wasnt any snow at all that day.. she was thinking it was more due to the inauguration ... but of course there really is no way to tell for sure.
I am sorry that you are making up the day, in my opinion that really sucks!!

good for you, and I am glad your mom is on board with that also, afterall the school board already decided to cancel school that day, there is no reason to make it up especially when you already have enough school days.

That's so obnoxious! You know, I hate it when I have to miss school and make everything up, and the only reason to add a day is for the teachers to get their required time in. Eh, think of it this way, you're really getting a lot for your parents' tax dollars.
Sorry about your misfortune D:
