A time to relax: Am i a bad person? What do you think?

I sent a text message to the office earlier today and advised that I'm on sick leave.
But i am not. I went to a shopping mall, stroll around, window shopping, just relaxing and taking my time off. I went to a bookstore, and then ate at icebergs, then checked on latest gadgets. I didn't buy though but i had a great time, alone and just by myself.
Sometimes i do get worried what if someone who know me or from the office will see me and i am just strolling around. I feel guilty earlier but now i am already enjoying my time-off. I decided to check on a Net Cafe now and just view if their are urgent office messages.
Do you also do this? Do you feel guilty afterwards?
Thanks for sharing....

You are a so lovely girl! How many days are you granted to be on sick leave? I think you can spend these days in this way, since it's your welfare. But you must ensure that when you are sick really, there are still these days. hehe.

well, we could all be guilty once in a while. but it is a very hard situation when someone catches you doing that, and it will give a very bad impression on you. just be very, very careful. and if really possible, just don't do it again. because you will never know what will happen and who can see you. the mall is such a big place with lots of people around who could see you there.

once is enough! hey, that is quite true for me also. sometimes its worth to try new thing, right? and when you tried it already, you know already the feeling on doing it, and sometimes it is just that, i do not want to do it again! cause i already did it once!

I'm a boring, black-and-white kind of person and I would not be doing something I did not love. I love my work and I do it well. I also have some time for myself and my pursuits but I don't take away time from work in order to indulge myself. Cheers!!

IT's actually quite normal.. There are times whereby one just wanna be left alone to do their own things.. I guess your colleagues are doing that too.. After all, what's the point in going to work and one has got no mood?? I will only make things worse when one is being scold for sloppy work.. haha
I have friends like this too, and it actually allows them to be more focus when theu go back to work the next day.. lol =D I have done it b4 and it's really a great feeling, and i wont ever feel guilty because i deserved it.. lol =D

It's ok for the late reply.. NO worries about that ^_^
Well, taking of sick leave is something our boss cant stop us from doing so, as one is not really bounded by the number of sick leaves we can take per year.. Even so, it's still 12-14 days of sick leave right?? lol =D
PLus, if one is really sick and faints in the office, is the boss gonna take responsibility?? I dun think so.. Thus, they have no choice but to grant it.. lol =D ANd for employees, that's just like an extension to our existing leave.. lol

hi Kun2349.. i hope you don't mind my late reply.. so sorry for that.
it's kind of different attitude you have there. and its nice to know that i am not alone on doing this! he he well, the truth is, it's quite exciting and yeah, makes me feel good at that time of doing it. And my other officemates are guilty at one time or another. This is because even though we have vacation leaves, its so hard to get an approval for that... the boss would usually say, postpone it, not now, etc. So for sick leave, you called office and have someone call the office and they cannot say no and pressure you to report since you are "sick". right?
well, i am not saying this is the right thing to do. all i am saying is, this has been happening.

You know what, in this company we are not allowed to take leaves. The rules and regulations are like that only. If we are taking one leave(authorized leave) then we are supposed to get Rs 1000 deduction in our sallary. When we are taking more than one leave, Rs2000 will be deducted.
Well, if it is a case of UA(unauthorized leave) then we will have Rs 8000 deducted from our salary. I have taken only one leave in last 7 months in this company!

I do a lot of malingering lately so...LOL....I'm guilty of the same thing. As for me, if you have done it many times, I think you should do a reality check. IT isn't a healthy working attitude.
But if you did it once, for absolutely no reason at all except to relax, I think we can pass you off this time. I mean, we deserve a little bit of crime and lies and alibis, you know, just to make us feel better.
So just don't feel so terrible about it. It's part of being human. Like I said just don't do it more often because it may become unhealthy and cost you your job.

No you are not a bad person. So long as you don't do it too often.
Everyone needs to take a day to recharge the batteries and do something just for them.
I hope you feel better for your relaxation day x

Don't feel guilty. Mental health days are important too. Good for you for knowing yourself enough to treat yourself to such a day.

Hi Ysabel,
That was a bad idea and it is not fair on someone who will have to do your work at the office and if someone spots you out and about will tell your boss but you know there is a story called a boy who cried wolf, so if you are really ill then no one would believe you.

Hi dear. I know the feeling of just strolling around with nothing to do during the working days. It's awesome. I used to do it quite often after I got really familiar with my work. At first, my boss will call me to check me out and asked me why I didn't attend office without letting him know. And then he became used to my coming office in the afternoon without calling me!!!Lol, I really missed that time so much!
I felt a little guilty at first but then I got to think it's Ok coz I work really hard and high efficiently in the afternoon to get my job done. Hey, if you unfortunately you met your colleague or boss, you can just tell them that you need a rest mentally, haha. If the taking off time can make you refreshed when back to work, why not do it? It's better than sitting in the office sleepy or low spirited and hating your boss.

hi Denise_Tung! how are you now? sorry for the late reply. it was indeed a relief reading your comment at that time. I was not able to comment back but I did read your comment and it was practically helpful! I certainly have no plans of doing it again.. (who know in the future? - he he) ... but until then, I am preoccupied now with work that thinking about being away even for a day is just impossible for now.

No, you're not a bad person.. my hubby does it sometimes.. he will advise his boss that he will not report to office due to fever, etc. haha! i mean, it's okay to lie at times most especially if you don't feel like going to work.. yesterday, hubby didn't go to work because he feels sleepy...

Don't be guilty! Well you did lie about the Sick Leave instead of a Vacation Leave but that's OK. Everybody does it :D It's the fault of society that they're not giving us enough time to relax to be content at work instead of relaxing in the mall, etc. But that would be because of economic reasons - and here in the Philippines, it's pretty bad. So it all roots back to our corrupt government :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Hello oyenkai, how are you? thanks for the response on my discussion too. You know what, I never ever do it again. It was just once. Next time, I will just plan my vacation ahead of time so I can relax some more. You are right in your analysis, it all roots back to corruption. Nice one! happy mylotting!

I never do this before. if I got sick then I will apply for sick leave and if I wanna give myslef a holiday then I will apply for annual leave (in China, we have 7-10 days/year according to different company). I think you are on sick leave but instead you go shopping, stroll around, seems like you are kinda guilty but nerver mind cuz the half day is your day and you can do what you like to do ...

hello jimmysun.. i hope you don't mind my late reply. i missed your comment and i am sorry for that. we also have alloted sick days given by the company and we also have number of days for vacation leave. but as you see, its so hard to get permission for a vacation leave. for sick leave, they will not be able to say NO but if you asked for vacation, the employer could tell you to postpone it. hence, its easier to use the sick leave.
thanks for the reply. appreciate it much!

No!You are not bad!I think being an office goer, you have the chance to take a leave at least. But as a businessman,I can't take leaves and sometimes I feel fed up to run away to a farthest place. It is good for a short period to get refreshed.Go ahead, enjoy this day and complete the missed jobs too tomorrow itself. That way you will be free from the guilty feeling.Cheer up!
