Hi my fellow Mylotters, and Mylot administration
I have a problem with the Mylot search engine. I recently just started another discussion, and before starting that discussion I did a search, to see if there were any similar discussions already started, there were none, at least according to my search. But, as soon as I clicked the submit button up popped an almost identical discussion.
Why did the search engine not pick up the discussion before I posted mine? I'm not 100% certain but I believe it is because the search engine treats words that have an S added to them, as different words. For example, apple and apples are to different words an depending on which the search term I use, the discussion may or may not be found.
So, I want to apologize publicly to the person who's discussion I duplicated and also raise the issue so that others are where the accidents do happen. Second, I would like to see the Mylot Administration consider this issue seriously and see if there's a way to resolve it.
What say you my fellow Mylotters?

Definitely I do agree. I also noticed that for quite sometime. I noticed that theres a repeat of discussions here in mylot that one time I happened to answer one discussion and after such I saw that there is still another one with the same topic.
I know that there are lots of members here in mylot and all of us do have different way f thinking of things. So let us not post the same discussion. If you are about to post a discussion then you saw that there is already an existing one, then try to think of another.
I hope this will open the minds of those members that are posting similar discussions.Happy mylotting guys! and enjoy!

As I sit here having a little laugh to myself, I have to say that I agree with you 100% wheel. Recently before I went away on a trip, I took details of some discussions and put them into word. I took the subject name as well as the topic of discussion, the topic starter and also the tags. Later while I was away, I duly typed up some of the responses to these discussions with the intention of doing a cut and paste to respond when I got back online.
That is when the fun started as it was some 4 days later and by then those discussions are nowhere to be found. So I did some searches, using every possible thing I could think of with no luck at all. So I ended up just deleting those responses and decided the only ones I would do like that again were those my friends had started. At least I could find those easily enough.
A few more days pass and as I am reading another discussion, I see one of the ones that the searches did not bring up. However by then my response had been deleted so yes we do need a better search engine as far as I am concerned.

Hi wheel
I hope the mylot admin takes a serious view of this. They should find a solution immediately.
Everyone wants to read only fresh discussions only.So the search engine should help us.
If the search engine is not able to differentiate between apple and apples,
what you can do about the discussion you have started ?I think now you have made your position clear so the other person who started the earlier discussion , will understand you better.
Happy mylotting.

It's good to see that you think about how to maintain mylot guidlines. I am saying this beacaue I very often see similar posts. And there are many who doesn't care about mylot guidlines and just post anything sometimes one or two liner discussions. But it's good to see that there are many who care about those things.

I have had that happen many times. I have noticed it the last few days too and I have noticed that the similar topics tend to be old. I'm not sure if we are suppose to just respond to the old forgotten one or if it is better that we started a new one?!

Yep, I agree with you, that's happened to me before and it annoyed me that I'd taken reasonable steps to ensure i wasn't repeating someone else's topic but it looked as though I hadn't bothered to check. I'd like to see duplicate interests weeded out or some way of searching for (eg) a particular film/TV prog/occupation instead of trawling through pages and pages...perhaps there is and I just haven't worked it out?? Oh, I am going to look so stupid if there is because its bound to be blindingly obvious...

I too have had similar experiences in the past, once The discussion has been posted up come several similar discussions.I hope that it is set right, so that we get to view all similar topics before we post the discussion. I am sure it is a simple matter, just a matter of fine tuning the search engine..

Hi wheel416,
Good day to you. I also experience what you have experienced. I searched for a particular topic and it says it has zero result or nobody has tried to make a discussion. The plural form of the word that you are looking for is very important. You are right, sometimes we post words without "s" so nothing appears. but when we have already post the discussion, it is very similar to the title that you have make.So with this, since there is a policy that once you imitated one discussion, yours will be deleted. So what happen is you just waste your time and effort in posting the discussion. I hope the admin can hear our concern about this matter.thanks for bringing this up. have a nice day ahead!!
