What do you do when you have writers block? I am going on 3 weeks now and I have not finish writing what was suppose to be a short story. What do you do to get out of this? My first time feeling down about something and I can't think of anything to write down.

Do something that takes your mind off writing altogether. I always seem to get inspiration from getting out and about and looking at things I haven't looked at before. Also if you are wandering around shops it's amazing to hear what people are talking about, you can get an idea from an overheard comment.

You answered your own question. Being the author of several published novels, i have experienced writers block too many times to count. I tried walking and tried sports and even tried doing an offbeat story and still, the writers block continued. Not a good place to be if you are close to a deadline.
What I find helps is Life. Not any life but yours. You said you were feeling down for the first time. Then write about it. As a journal type writing or make it a story. i.e. "He had never felt this way before. The feeling was intense and he knew he had to pull out of it. His published demanded it, his wife encouraged it. The sadness weighed him down and he knew now his only salvation was to tell His story... even if only to himself......................"
Try it, you might like it and you might learn something new about yourself. Good luck...

Go for a walk maybe. I go through stages in my writing I have noticed that when I am depressed or stressed I write more. which is weird. If I am having a good time or have no worries I cannot write!! Maybe read some newspapers, surf the internet for random things. Just relax and not think about it too much go out and do something fun or watch a movie.

i have had writer's block a couple of times with i was writing my novel. then one day, i came across these used books and i browsed thru them. and one got my attention. it had many writing exercises that helped get out ideas and helped me get out of my writer's block. it is called, Wild Mind: Living the Writer's Life by Natalie Goldberg. i think she wrote other books. but i only have this one. one is enough for me.
