Anyone here a fan of the Wiggles (or have children who are)?
My twins used to be huge Wiggles fans. So much so that we even bought tickets (and drove an hour) to a live Wiggles concert. Of course that was 3 or 4 years ago. They grew out of the Wiggles, and my younger boys are more interested in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse than the Wiggles. Actually for awhile their show wasn't even on TV except for extremely early in the morning before any of us are usually up.
Well recently they're show is back on at a normal hour, sometime late morning, early afternoon. But I've noticed a huge difference! Greg is gone, and there's some other guy in his place, wearing his yellow shirt!
Who is this guy? Where did Greg go? What happened? I'm so confused!

My kids are older now and don't watch The Wiggles anymore, so I haven't seen them recently. A few years ago, however, they were a huge favourite in our household! I must confess I enjoyed them as much as my kids did.
I recently heard that Greg had to stop performing due to health reasons. He apparently suffers from a chronic health condition. Although the condition is not fatal, it is one that won't allow him to sing and dance the way he used to.
It is very sad indeed! Greg did say "good bye" to all of his young fans, though perhaps not everyone saw it. I did find this videon on YouTube with his parting words:

Greg, you will be missed!

Thanks for the info, I'd really no idea. It is better knowing he quit for health reasons and not because the group broke up and replaced him, or something equally devastating.

I agree. I feel very, very sorry that Greg suffers from such a condition. But for the sake of the young fans it is also good to know that the departure was amicable and that it is not a case of behind-the-scenes fighting or over-inflated egos. I found Greg's good-bye speech to be very touching. I have no doubt that his decision to leave was a very tough one.
On the Wiggles official website, I read a bit about how the group was formed. It was actually created when three of the four members (Greg, Murray and Anthony) were working on a project together while studying Early Childhood Education. It is interesting to know that these three men are actually certified to be preschool teachers. Jeff was a professional musician who was brought in to round out the group. He and Anthony had performed together as members of an 80's band called The Cockroaches.
To me, that is what I loved most about The Wiggles. I like knowing that the band was their own creation, and that there is a solid educational basis behind their music. They are not just some concept created by corporate television, and the members are not frustrated coulda-been rock stars filling time until a better gig comes along. Watching The Wiggles perform there is always the sense that they truly love what they do. No egos, just having fun entertaining children.

When my twins were interested in the Wiggles, I'd learned most of that, except about the Cockroaches, I learned that on Youtube while viewing other videos about Greg's departure. It is nice how the came together, and although sad, it's nice that Greg's departure was amicable, as you said. They're a great group of guys. I'm glad that was one of the shows we chose to see live in Concert. It was so much fun, and they threw in some things to keep the adults entertained as well, such as Captain Feathersword doing impressions, he did one of Ozzy Osborne that was hillarious!

Aw, poor Greg! The Big Red Car song just wouldn't be the same without him driving ;-)
Having come late to the discussion, I'm sure you'll have been filled in about poor Greg's illness which necessitated his retirement from making a prat of himself in public.
When I had the same question some months ago it was before I'd discovered myLot so I went googling and ended up watching some woman sobbing about it on YouTube. Very odd!

Wordplay got it right. Greg suffers from orthostatic intolerance, which I understand is a blood pressure issue that when he changes postion, like sitting to standing, his heart doesn't pump well enough and he gets a variety of syptoms including dizziness and impacts on coordination.
The new Yellow Wiggle is Sam. Sam had actually been a part of the show already for years, and acted as Gregs understudy on tours.
