Language in films

Ok so I have just got back from Spain, my boyfriend lives there and I live in the UK. How come when we hire films in Spain all have the option of speaking and subtitles in Spainish or English but in the UK not all films have the option for subtitles or spoken in Spanish. I thought that Spanish was one of the most spoke languages everywhere? Who else has problems like mine? Are there specific film companies that do certain languages? Really annoying.
