As a big Star Wars fan, I was very dissapointed by the new Star Wars movies. They just seemed like sacrilege to the Holy Trinity that was the original trilogy. Out of the three prequels "Revenge of the Sith", was the best out of a bad lot.
So did you want to choke Jar Jar Binks binks to death with your popcorn?
Were the prequels just a jumped uo toy commercial ?

I really enjoyed them. I wrote about this on another thread, but I feel that Lucas did well in his creation of the first three because they gave a sense of what occured when the Empire took over. The Empire ruined anything it got its hands on, so it makes sense that prior to the Empire the world would have been a brighter place. It also makes sense that there would be more freedoms, better places, etc before the Empire fully took over.
I didn't want to choke Jar Jar. I think he was a pivotal character that needed to be put into the story. He represented persons who are totally and completely innocent and naieve. That is why he got into so much trouble. For example, he was easily moved by Senator Palpatine's aide to call for a vote when Amidala was gone because he did what he thought she would have done. And in all fairness to Jar Jar, Amidala at that point in time would have voted with Palpatine because no one saw him for what he was yet. Jar Jar was the representations for the child in all of us who is introduced to war, and a world he didn't know existed before the Empire's interferance.
I don't think they were at all jumped to just for toy commericalism. Lucas has stated in countless interviews that he had the entire story written out prior to the first three but that he didn't have the funds at the time to tell the story, and people weren't going to sit through a long movie. And that is true, most American's won't sit through a movie that is longer then two hours.

Good point on Jar Jar. I think that's what Lucas really wanted to achieve. However, Jar Jar DID annoy me a lot. I think it was because, in a shallow note, Jar Jar tried to serve as a comic relief but failed miserably. I think since Artoo and Threepio weren't together there yet Jar Jar kind of had to be a stand-in for that duo. But good point on Jar Jar nonetheless.

Zone-
I just noticed this lol, I'm sorry it took me 3 months to respond. May the force be with you as well. Yes, I definately take my Star Wars life very seriously. Ok, so I'm bit more like Qui Gong (though according to a recent survey I took on what Jedi I'd be, I scored Obi Wan-heh, maybe I'm an old hermitess and don't know it yet lol). Thanks for the response though.

I wasn't a big fan of the prequels. I had some of the same issues that others did. Like, for instance the technology seemed more advance in the prequels. I don't know how this could have been remedied as it being a sci-fi movie, cool visuals are part of the fun. The original trilogy was very cutting edge when it came out.
The thing that really got to me in the prequels, was the acting for Anakin, both young and old. I really didn't care about him. I didn't feel any emotion about his struggle. The acting just turned me off that I was sitting there thinking, so what, become Darth Vader already.
I didn't really know the story in the prequels going in. All I knew is that Anakin becomes Darth Vader and Obi Wan was his teacher. So some of the back story was interesting. But the really wasn't much suspense, partially because you know how it's all gonna turn out.
So, the original is still my favorite, hands down.

Yes the original trilogy is still the Holy grail. For me the "Revenge of the Sith" was the best of the prequels, it was good, as you said, to have some back story of how Anakin turned to the dark side. Although the the turning of Anakin, seemed rushed a little bit. The worst part of "Revenge of the Sith" , was Darth Vader screaming "NOOOOOOOOOO!" like a litle girl.

I actually loved all 6. Of course Episodes 4, 5, and 6 will always be a level above the prequels. However, my all time favorite out of the six is actually Revenge of the Sith. I don't know why. Maybe because I am female so it has a lot of things in the story that I like. It covers a lot of bases to cater to all audiences. It has the action, a love story, drama, etc. Not to mention Anakin is pretty freaking hot in this one haha.
But aside from that, the story in this Episode just thrills me the most. I get chills when Anakin takes his first breath as Darth Vader.
Return of the Jedi is right up there with this one though for me. I really love the ending and feel satisfied with it. I would love to see Episodes 7, 8, and 9 that Lucas wrote but it does not seem that will happen, so the ending to Episode 6 is as satisfying as possible. Star Wars is just all around awesome. What else needs to be said? haha
