I have been donating blood since I was a senior in highschool (about 6 years now) and I find it to be a very rewarding experience. With just stick of a needle and a few moments of my time, my blood could possibly save someone's life! I'm a B+ blood type which is only 12% of the population, so I know that someone, somewhere, is lying in a hospital bed, needing a blood transfusion in order to live... and my blood might just be the blood that saves their lives so they can return to their family and friends and continue with life. I encourage anyone qualified to donate blood. Some blood drive alliances offer "points" for every gallon you donate and send you gifts depending upon how many points you've earned. But the greatest gift is knowing that you saved somebody's life.

donating blood does not cause you to gain weight. When you donate blood, they only take a small percentage of your body's blood, in which your body can make and renew quickly. The only thing that could case you to gain weight is if you go pig out on food afterwards! :) The act of simply donating blood is not unhealthy and your body can handle it- unless you have low blood sugar and iron levels in which they screen for before they draw your blood. Give it a try- knowing that you just did something that could save someone's life it a gratifying feeling.

yes, i have donated blood and trust me its not painful at all. in fact quite satisfying because you know that you're helping other people. but now, because im studying overseas,im forbidden to donate my blood when im back home cuz they're afraid that my blood is already tainted.i have to wait for a period of 5 years before i can start donating blood again :)

No, I have never donated blood. Its not because I did not want to but because I have never had to donate it.

I am B+ve type and have positively donated 2 times in the last 6 months .Was nervous the 1st time, infact after donating my blood nearly collapsed. But the 2nd time was real treat ,i happily gave it .After that i felt really good .Donating Blood not only helps a person in danger but also helps us by rejuvenating our blood ,since new blood cells starts getting produced. So looking forward for further donations ,if time & health permits.

I've donated blood twice. Both times at my high school. The first time I did it they missed the vein. Then of course they dug around for a while until they gave up and went to my other are. But the guy who missed felt really horrible so I didn't get mad. The second time I gave blood really fast. Then I went and ate the cookies and drank the juice and felt fine. I made it through an entire class (about 50min.) and then I started to get dizzy. My boyfriend went and got the nurse and I passed out in the doorway of the nurses office! It was really weird! But I would totally do it again. They do it all the time on my campus I just always forget to go! But I am A+ which is not rare and not everyone can get it but I still find donating my blood very rewarding! And actually it came full circle for me! My mom, who is also A+, had surgery. Well when she was recovering she started bleeding out and had to get a blood transfusion! I know the chances that she got my blood are almost 0 but still it made me see the importance of donating blood!

I haven't recently, but I used to donate blood about 3-4 times a year. My blood type is O negative, so I am the universal donor. My blood type isn't the most rare (I think that is AB negative), but since anyone can receive my type without reaction, it's quite in need. That's the blood type that in an emergency you'd receive until they could test your blood and get you "type specific".
