Looking to build a hand powered generator

I have a radio with a generator built in, a dynamo as it is called. We all know how this works, right? you turn the handle and it generates power, etc. Well, I thought that it would be good if I could use this generator, or make my own, to generate power for other things, i.e. charging my cellphone. So I opened the radio up to look at the generator. It's relatively simple. There is only one wire coming from it, for power of course. I was wondering if there was any way to adjust this generator to a DC power socket, while still having the radio work-able? I have only some very simple electronics/circuitry knowledge, so some easy instructions would be much appreciated. Or if you know a link to a site that would help me, that too would be appreciated. Thanks
