My niece will be graduating in secondary. Until now she is undecided on what course to take. She is afraid that after graduation she will be a part of the increasing unemployment rate. I do not recommend to her to take up nursing because of the hgih rising unemployment rate in nursing. What do you think is the best course to take in college now? She is smart and deserves the best. Please make some suggestions.

If she tries her best to be competitive and do her resume well and send them anywhere she wont be jobles :-) The best course to get for me is anywhere from IT, Medical and Engineering courses and few from financial courses. These are the courses that are in need in the global market today especial those people who are good in computers. Since we are in the computer age, IT's and other computer professionals are hired all over the world. Trust me, i've beem browsin a lot of jobsites lately because I've been trying to find a new job and all i see are IT's, engineers and medical courses.

My bf is in IT business, he do not recommend to my niece to take the same course because its too broad. My niece is not interested in engineering courses, since you said that medical field is in demand, she is considering it but not nursing. Thanks for answering.

Yes IT is broad but your niece will learn it eventually. But you can always look at what your niece is more passionate about. Medical courses is really in demmand because everywhere there are sick people and it's a good pay as well. Doctors have real good pay. If only I could go back to my younger days, I'd go for being a doctor.

Well,I can't suggest any course that would assure her that she can have a job immediately after graduation.. I think almost all kind of courses were really hard to find a job here in the Philippines but if she wants to go abroad then maybe she can't search in the internet what are vacant jobs that most foreign country were offering..
One thing is its not good to take a course that you don't like it because it will really affect the learning and skills of the students and she might find it difficult when she is in the high level already.. It is nice to take a course or to study on something that will really interest you and something that is related or enhance your skill.. If a person is interested with the kind of thing then she will be able to pursue it no matter what it takes.. So, if I were your niece she must choose a course that fits her skill and interest so that she won't find difficult studying a particular topic or subject..
But since you were asking for some suggestion of what courses were most hired today, I'll say the business courses, any information technology, or hotel and restaurant management.. I've known that foreign country were hiring those who graduated HRM courses and IT courses especially those who are good programmer or designer.. On the other hand, the reason why I suggest business courses its because in the company that I'm applying they were hiring those graduates from business courses...
The fact is you can be hired even though you're not in your field of study just like me.. I took up Bachelor in Secondary Education but I'm working right now as a Graphic Artist.. I was hired because I have a good skills in designing things and most of all it fits my interest also.. So, it doesn't mean that you graduated from a certain courses, automatic that when you graduated you will be working in your field.. Of course its a matter of choose and chances that is offering to you..

She should be enrolled to a school that offers quality education. She has to evaluate her strength, weakness and interest. It is difficult to take up a course that she is not interested in. It is a waste of time to take up engineering course if she is impatient in doing calculations. Take up a course that really interests her and can bring out the best in her.
