Yes it is important especially if you're using huge applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash and AutoCadd. It is also important in playing games with lot of graphics especially 3D games. Video card memory should really be high for less hassle in playing games and using huge applications. Happy myLotting!

Graphic memory is required for all computer. But dedicated graphic memory is required if only you want to play games or do graphics design or any other design process. The graphic cards and processors with dedicated graphics help you in doing this. Also there are many different types of graphics cards. Some games wont play in graphics card which doesn't have stream processing.
If you are a person who don't like to play games, is not a graphic developer and is not involved in any projects that involve modelling and simulation softwares, there is no need of graphics cards and dedicated graphic memories.

You need to have extra graphics memory only if you are an ardent gamer. All latest games require humongous amounts of memory, of the order of GBs. And high end graphics are expensive. so you need to go for the extra graphics only if you are a game addict, or you use graphix intensive applications like maya.

Graphics card is absolutely neceassary for PC to display graphics, without it no graphics can be displayed on screen. There are some games that require very advanced graphics that normal VGA or AGP graphics card cannot support so cards like NVidea then are required to run those games otherwise they will never play
