Is Human consciousness is the cause of environmental pollution

Some would say human consciousness is the root cause of everything. There are theories relating that all things exist only because our consciousness creates them. Clearly humans cause pollution and our egos keep it going. It is difficult for people to think on a global level. Especially in the US where we are so self-centered. My favorite tidbit on this subject is an event in Washington DC where a group of well-wishers simply sat and prayed regularly for peace. It is said that murders in the city decreased by 50% while the prayers went on. There's the perfect example of how consciousness can effect reality.

Root cause or only calls, pending on your what you consider to be the environment internal or external of yourself. If your thoughts and thinking are controlled and directed on what you want is that pollution?
