I started a discussion earlier about who all has been to jail and/or prison and one persons response spurred this discussion. If you knew you'd broken the law and yet you weren't caught, would you turn yourself in to clear your name and take the chance at going to jail or would you continue to ignore it or hide from it in hopes that it would be forgotten? I would say I'd personally hope it would be forgotten. I wouldn't want to chance it that I might go to jail or prison. I know it would probably eventually catch up with me but I wouldn't push it. What would you do? ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Lets just put it this way, if you break the law, whether you're ever caught by the justice system or not, you will pay for breaking the law. Having to look over your shoulder wondering if you're going to get caught can make life a living hell.

Think my conscience would make me tell the truth. I couldn't live with myself or the worry of getting caught. Good job I'm law abiding.

If I broke a law and didn't realize it till later and it can be 'fixed', I would turn myself in and apologize for doing it and see how I can go about getting it fixed w/o going to jail. Aside from that, there is no chance of me breaking a serious law because my guilty azz conscience won't allow me to.

I'm too much of a good girl, so I would turn myself in and face upto the consequences of my actions. If I didn't, then I couldn't expect anyone to do the same, not even my own children. If I didn't turn myself in, then I would be a pretty poor role model, and to me, it is important that I set a good example, not just for my own children, but for other youngsters as well.

It would depend on the gravity of the law broken. When my mind has been elsewhere, I know that I've accidentally run stop signs. I've broken the law, but I don't go to the police station and ask for a ticket. I resolve to pay better attention when I'm driving. All (or most) of us at one time or another have had one drink too many, and shouldn't drive...but we do. We may not recognize that we are over the legal limit, or we just try to get home without getting caught. We've broken the law too. Do any of us turn ourselves in? I don't, but I do try to be more careful in the future.

It would depend on the crime and the severity of it of course. One thing we have to remember is that forensic science is improving all the time and whilst the police might not evidence today, they might in 10 or 20 years. If it was a crime that weighed on my conscience, then yes I would admit it and take my chances. I would do it for a few reasons. One is that I have to live with myself and if the offence is so bad, that if weighs me down then it is better to confess. Also I have children and grandchildren and I cannot do one thing and tell them to do another. Besides how awful it would be if one day the law caught uop with me for some horrible crime I had committed years before, yet I had always told them not to do that particular thing. In the very least they would lose respect for me and they would have every reason to ask what else I had lied to them about. If it was a minor crime, it isn't really an issue at all and yes I would hope it would just go away. If it harms anyone else, then it is not in the minor crimes category.

I wouldn't go to jail, the cops will have o hunt me down and kill me. The only "crime" i could see doing is killing a rapist or the person or persons who killed a loved one.I wouldn't turn myself in because I wouldn't be sorry. So if the cops have to come get me, bring it but they better kill me.

It depends upon what I did. If I murdered someone I would have to turn myself in, if It was something little, minor then I would think it would blow away. I thought some people moved away who lived behind me because they lost their home. We had to pay 100% for putting up a new fence between the two houses and they left a bird feeder in their yard. I wanted it so I asked my gardener to put it in my yard so I could continue to feed the birds. Then I found out the people had not moved out completely. I told my gardener not to take it because the people where not though moving and the so he said "I will offer them $20 for it" and the next thing I know the bird feeder was in my yard. I found out a few weeks later that my gardener stole that bird feeder. I feel guilty that I received stolen property but do I turn myself in? I have not yet and it has been several months. What would you do?

First of all you should not get in trouble so u might not get in jail.If i did something and none caught me well i will hope they will just forget.but if they put in jail one of my friend for my faults then i will just confess everything.

First of all, I am not one to break the law so I know this will never happen, but if it did. I would probably try to forget it and hope they did too. I would feel really guilty knowing I did something wrong, but like you said I wouldn't want to risk the chance of going to jail or even having a fine that I couldn't afford. That's why I always try to play it safe so I don't have to worry about it.

I'd say it would depend on what it was. If it was something stupid and minor, I'd probably just let it pass and if it caught up with me, then it did. But, if it is something more serious, like something that caused someone some sort of physical pain and suffering I'd probably turn myself in. Even if I wanted to hide it or cover it up, the guilt would probably catch up with me.

Hi twoey! I'm with you on this one! I don't think that most people would purposely turn themselves in if they didn't have to! But, since I have never committed a haneous crime I really couldn't answer that question. Yes, I have shoplifted! But, I didn't get caught thankfully and I wouldn't go confess! I have never done anything else to constitute a crime that would require a confession either. I think that most criminals hope that they don't get caught. Unless there is a good chance that they are going to get caught no one in their right mind, although most criminals are not necessarily in their right mind to begin with are not going to turn themselves in to face jail time!

I would take the consequences of my actions. i know it is hard to believe that I am willing to be in Jail. I know myself well, I would rather be in jail than getting crazy. I will carry that sin in my conscience forever which could possibly make me insane.
