Need opinions about Odesk and Elance

I've been into a freelance writing job for quite a while, doing research and content writing for academic pieces. Though I get to be paid on time as long as the paper work are done. Yet, I still feel a little compensated by it. I've come across sites like Elance and Odesk as providing opportunities for freelancers like myself. Though I'm still in the process of learning from other people's experience regarding their work with these two sites so I would know if it's really worth of my time to try them. Anyone here who happened to be lucky in freelancing career with Odesk and/or Elance? Need your advise...
