"The Titanic was called.. the ship of dreams.. it was.. it really was.." Old Rose talked about the Titanic and fell into the long lost memories.
Many directors have been trying to put the story of Titanic onto the silver screen, but they found it hard to catch people's heart. The sinking of "unsinkable" Titanic shocked the world. And it was a good story for a movie. But how to amplify the shocking effected is hard work. James Cameron's try is totally a coup. He inserted a love story into the event. As we all know, the sinking of Titanic killed many people, so it is a matter of life and death. If a love can overcome life and death, it will surely move the viewers.
In the beginning, the director emphasizes the size of the ship and builds an august feeling. When the ship left the port, all the passengers were on the deck, waving. People on the land were waving and cheering. Nobody knew a catastrophe was coming. The director marked a strong contrast.
The core part of the movie is the love story of Jack and Rose. They came from different classes, but they overcame that gap and fell in love with each other. Rose did hesitate about that, but then she changed her mind. Then came the world-known scene. "I'm flying"
Then when the catastrophe came, Jack acted like a real man. The director emphasized that nervousness and the danger when the two lovers were seeking for life. The actor and actress's performance was also experienced, apt, and lively.
Talking about Titanic, we can never ignore the effect of music. James Horner was the man. He composed the music which served for every scene, every atmosphere. And when the movie was over, the Heart of the Ocean faded away, then came the theme song "My Heart Will Go On". The viewers will not rush toward the exit. Instead, they would listen to the song quietly and think over the scenes in the movie.
