Do you send any news tips to the local media?

At TV news programs, I notised the hostress ends her speech by inviting news tips. Newspapers have contact numbers for news tips too. I doubt if ordinary people will bother to send any news tips to the media. More often, people in trouble will contact TV for helping them out, say, looking for their aged lost mother, resolving conflicts with neighbors, etc. Do you or your friends ever send new tips to the local media?
