Do you sit opposite or beside kid for "serious" talkings?

There are cases when your kid makes you angry, and you need to talk with him or her seriously. Which position do you prefer, opposite or beside? And do you think the position makes any difference to your kid?

I sit opposite of them
that way i can see their expression and watch their body language
also eye contact is easier when you are face to face
you can better insure that you are getting 100% of their attention and they are getting 100% of yours
makes for more effective communication that way

i sit opposite to them.. so that he or she will be able to see my face.. and she would know i mean every warning i give to her.. and then when she realize shes wrong.. ill ask her to come closer and give a hug.. and explain and make it clear to her what she did was wrong.. ill hug her just to make sure she wont cry.. thats what i do.. hehehe

I sit opposite with my children. I want them to be able to see my face and know that this talk if very important. When I sit beside my children they always seem to be looking else where, and off in space.
I want them to know that we are having this talk because they've either done something wrong, or something bad has happened and they need to hear it from me. I also get down to their level so they don't feel like I am trying to over power them, but just having a talk with them.
