The next monday, 9 Feb 2009, is the Lantern Festival of China. In my hometown we will cook Yuanxiao on that day.
Yuanxiao or Tangyuan is an traditional food. In my opinion, Yuanxiao is not as well taste as Tangyuan, but the way of cook is more magical.
This kind of food looks like little meatball (I am not sure how to say it. actually, there is not meat in it. ) Usually, is is white outside, and the inner can be different. the outer is glutinous rice flour, the inner usually is the mixture of sesame and sugger.
it is say that the Tangyuan is cooked as dumplings, just put the inner into the outer. But the Yuanxiao is cooked with the inner in the flour (what has said before) and roll it, just like rolling a snow ball.
at last, put the Yuanxiao into boiling water, wait until it floating in the surface of the water.
for me a Yuanxiao can be eaten in 3 bites.

I am a Chinese, too. Nice to meet you here. Usually we will have a nice meal at night and a whole family will get together. And after that, we will eat the dessert called tangyuan, too. I think the tradition is similar everywhere in China. After Yuanxiao Festival, it means the Chinese New Year is passed at last.
I love China
