My inlaws was telling me about a home remedy that they tried and said it worked. My mother in law always seemed to cough all the time during the night making it hard for her to sleep. (it was not a cold, she just always coughed) my father inlaw was reading on the net that if you take vix vapor rub and put it on your feet with some socks that it would help eliminate the coughing. my mother inlaw tried and she said it worked. Has anyone ever heard of this and have you tried it?? What other remedies can you share??

Remedies??hmmmmmmmm......I have other remedies in mind but not for the cough. I have not heard of that remedy but in case i experience that I will definitely try that..

I am having a flu, suffering from sore throat and coughing. I would very much like to try the vix vapor rub, but seems not available here. What is the contents, and what is substitute for the rub? Could you help to offer more information?

The active ingredients in Vicks Vapor Rub are:
Camphor 4.8%,
Eucalyptus Oil 1.2%
Menthol 2.6%
The rest are inactive ingredients. It's the active ingredients that you want to look for in a similar product.

I have not heard of this remedy. However I would try it when I have a cough. Sometimes old wives tales really works.

Yep! Vicks, mentholatum, any kind of ointment meant to be rubbed on the chest to relieve congestion will work better rubbed on the feet. I don't use the commercial salves as I'm an herbalist and make most of my own remedies. The feet absorb the medicinal properties quickly, they get into the blood stream and go to work on all parts of the body. I used to rub mentholatum on the bottom of colicky babies feet.

yes vicks vaporub works for more times. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.
rub vicks on throat,nose and chest if u have cough.and u can also put a tea towel over u'r head and inhale the vapors. I will never forget the smell if i use it and how magically it made me breath again ,if i have cough and cold.
