I am one of those kind of people that has a list for everything. Shopping, cleaning, packing for vacation...everything! I think it is a OCD thing. I have to have a list. And the weird thing is a make one everyday and it always has the same things on it, so why do I need to make it? My husband laughs but I have noticed that he has started to be list person too. Is this just being organized or is it OCD...maybe a little of both? Are the kind of person that has to have a list?

I think it is wonderful that you carry a list, I have a habit of not making one and that means I forget things. I am a writer and I just now decided to make a list of the things I want to write about and it is so much better, I no longer forget my ideas.

I understand alot of writers have pads of paper everywhere so they can jot down their ideas no matter where they are. That is a very good idea!

I agree with the list. It helps me focus on what I need to cover and I seem to get more done, than if I just float around and try to remember everything I needed to do. Too since i live in a more rural area and dont get out as often, it helps me to line up where all I need to go and what I need to do while I am in that area than making multiple trips. I seem to have little pieces of paper everywhere! I also have a little notebook by my bed so if there is something I think of that I will need to do, I can write it on down and not have to stress out over whether or not I will remember it tomorrow if I dont keep it in my memory!

Making a list is a good thing. It keeps you motivated and you wouldn't forget thinga you have to buy or do. Hmm, I don't think I am a total list person as there are somethings that I make a list for, like planning a project at work and groceries list but there are also things where I am equally scatterbrained. No lists no plans just dive into the lake without knowing its depth. Although it makes me feel a little unprepared, I come up with solutions that wouldn't have occured if I were to do a list and it saves some time too.

I agree with you about keeping you motivated. You can feel a sense of accomplishment as you get to cross off the things you have done. Sometimes I feel like I am spending more time on making my list than I am doing my list. Haha

lol i totally get what you mean. When I make a list or a plan, it would look like a great strategy map of a war. Times, deadlines, colours, what not! Takes a lot of time and it ends up in the bin more times than often.

I think crossing things off lists gives you a sense of accomplishment, especially with boring things that are repetitive, so that when you get to the last item you know that you are done and the rest of the day is yours. The problem with me is that I make lists and then for various reasons am unable to finish it off so the next days list is increased by the to do's of the previous days and if this happens enough time my lists become nightmares with too much to do and too little time. I must admit my lists are nowhere as elaborate as some of the previous posts above and it would not be the first time that I make a shopping list forget it at home and then after doing the shopping realizing I have forgotten half of what was on the list. I am a list maker but not a list obeyer if that makes sense they do not rule my life. I think I love the idea, but I am unable to rule my life by them I love too be spontaneous.

Very rarely do actually cross off everything that I have my list. I think what I need to start doing is put down what needs to get done not what I want to get done. I find myself carrying over things to the next day and does become overwhelming sometimes. I guess for me it has almost become habit to sit down in the morning with my coffee and make my list for the day.

lol. I don't HAVE to make a list, but I do make them. I do grocery lists to make sure I don't forget anything because I don't have the luxury of going back to the store if I forget something...which I will do if I don't have a list. Sometimes I forget things when I do have a list... Hubby is always working and we only have one car, so I only get to go to the store once a week. If I am going on a trip, I definitely make a list. I make sure I have everything I need and don't forget anything. If I have a lot to do for packing for a move, I will make a list just to be able to cross things off as I go and make sure I remember everything.

That is a good reason for making a list. And doesn't it feel good to cross things off!!

hi there, Lists aren't a part of my everyday life, but I do use them when I do my grocery shopping and also when packing for holidays. Everything else, such as daily jobs is routine to me so I don't need a list for that except for perhaps around Christmas time when I do need to plan and organize my routine a little more carefully. Without a list at these hectic times many a thing has been forgotten. ~proudnana~

That is why I think my need for list making is more an OCD thing. It is the same thing everyday. I should just get a dry erase board since the list always has the same thing on it...at least I would be saving trees. Your lucky to be so organized.

I don't think it's as serious as an OCD. Maybe you just like to be organized, and that's a good thing. I don't make lists at all because I'm so disorganized. I get impatient when I scan my brain for things to list down, see. I wish I had your patience so I could fill my 2009 planner. Haha!

Well, I think it might mild OCD but I never thought of mentioning my planner. I go crazy if I can't find or forget to bring it with me. It feels like my whole life is that book.

Wow, you and I are SO much alike about this! LOL I have a "list notebook" and, I divide each page daily so I can have a list for my jobs and a list for housework. Then, I have a grocery list notepad that I keep on my desk so I can write things down as they pop in my mind. Then, I have a notebook that is divided up by the number of jobs I do. Each of those sections of the notebook contains lists of what I need to do for each job each month. LOL As you can see, I'm a bit OCD about this as well. It's trickling into my children's habits, too, which isn't a bad thing as they move through school and have to stay super organized in order to keep up with their studies.

We do sound alot alike!! I absolutely feel lost if I go somewhere and forgot my list. I have actually put on my main list of things to do, to not forget a list I might need!!!

The only lists I ever make are shopping lists, just to ensure I don't forget anything. That's far too much stuff to try to keep straight in my head. But when it comes to cleaning or other daily to do's, I just keep a mental list, and sometimes I'll go over it a few times in my head so I don't forget.

I make lists, Sometimes they help me sometimes they don't. The major reason I make them is to keep the procrastination down, it seems to help when it comes to having a big event here at the house. I make sure I put the date on the top of it to make sure everything is done on that day, so when it comes to the day of the event, I don't have to worry so much about rushing to get things done because with out my list I would be struggling to get things done last minute. My shopping lists usually are pointless, I get most of everything on the list, but somehow always over look something, and forget it. Whoops. Packing lists help me out alot beacuse I pack for myself and 3 other people and they all need different things, and some are very important and can't be forgotten. I don't think it's OCD, it's called taking control and being organized.

I think making a list is very practical. Some people make them because they are useful but some people actually need them. I think, I am a little of both.
