I am just getting into setting up my own website and getting people to it from search engines.
I was (last night) recommended to start to use IRC - as I was told this would help me alot.
Does anyone out there use IRC?
What is it all about and how could it benefit my webpage?

Hello SeANi0W! I have heard and seen the IRC - but honestly, I never tried that. I am using yahoo messenger all my life. I am curious about IRC though. What do you think is the different between messenger and IRC?

Hi, Hope you are well..
I decided not to go for the IRC in the end didnt seem as if it would help me as much as I thought.
I think the main difference of of the two (IRC and Messenger), Messenger has more follows, and with email, blog and loads of virtual hard drive space, pepole have stuck with Messenger and have been drawn away from IRC.
Stick with Messenger.... Im sure all your contacts will too!

seem to be getting that from alot of people (here and on other forums - that it is old and not many people who have commented saying that they use it anymore.
I still have got it yet .. I might not bother tho if I get any more comment like this...
seems like no one bothers with it no more!!!

It is a chatting environment. What is good about it is that there are multiple clients available to chat. You can even have a Java version on your website. The java version doesn't allow file sharing though.
I've never heard advice to put it on a webpage to benefit it but I guess if you can get a bunch for regulars daily it can increase your hit count.
Most people don't use it to chat though... WE use it for "other" things.
