I can't type without seeing the keyboard. Many years ago when I learned to type, we also had to learn to type without seeing the keyboard. We had to use some very old typewriters, and we were given a thing that we had to place in front of the typetwriters so that we couldn't see the keys. I was never were good at typing, and I made a lot of mistakes. As far as I can remember I didn't take the exam, because I was pretty sure that I wasn't going to pass. Today I type pretty fast, and I am satisfied with the way that I type, but I can't type without looking at the keyboard.

Thanks to years of doing data entry and wasting my time in chatrooms and chatting with people because I thought they were friends and would be there for me, I can type without looking at the keyboard, and type quite fast as well. Though I do not have much of a use for it anymore...

I also think that typing without seeing the keyboard helps to increase the speed. I am a medical transcriptionist. During our training, we were asked to type without looking at the keyboard. Initially it was difficulty, but after months of doing, I think I was able to type more faster without looking into the keyboard. We will also be aware of all the keys when we do not look at the keyboard and our typing speed increases.

Hi punmsharma, Sure I can. I don't look much when I am typing. Maybe just when I first started since I picked my typing my own way and I didn't learn the way of feeling for the letter using the underscore etching. Well, old habits die hard.

Unfortunately, I have to look at the keyboard. I wish I could type without looking. I think it would be great for me because my thoughts seem to come faster than I can type them. I took typing in high school (it was required) but barely passed. I wish there was some way I could teach myself.

I can type without looking at the keyboard and I can do so very quickly; there's just one problem the end result is one huge typo! I am a writer and this is what I do every single day and yet my typing is atrocious! I was taught to touch type at school; it was a really long time ago, put it this way, not only did we use typewriters instead of computers, the machines they weren't even electric! Just typing this has resulted in several hits of the backspace button and thank God for spell check! Now that I can copy and paste from MyLot, I paste my responses on a word document, spell check and copy back onto the site if necessary. Time consuming? Yes but you wouldn't want to see the errors if I didn't do this!

I learned to type a long, long time ago on a manual, blind typewriter. Blind means there were no letters on the keys. Manual means the typewriter was not electric. You had to take your hands off the keyboard and hit the lever to move the carriage return back to the left of the page. With no letters on the keys, it did me no good to look at the keyboard, so I had to learn it. I'm glad I did. This skill has served me well thru the years.

I have a keyboard tray, that stays under the desktop so even if I want to look at the keyboard, I have to pull the tray out to see it. most of the time, I don't. I took typing in high school and then later I took another class. I have no clue how fast I type, but I did data entry for about 15 years... so, I don't have to look at my fingers to type.

Yes i can type without looking at the keyboard or at the monitor...... I found a typing speed test a few days ago and I typed 103 words per minute. Like u said, we can increase our typing speed if we don't look at the keyboard but we can do this by typing with all fingers... I know many people who type with only 2 fingers or even 1.

When I learned to type it was on a manual typewriter. Word Processors didn't exist yet let alone personal computers. If you made a mistake there was no whiteout to correct it. You had to type it all over again. If you wanted to have a copy of a letter you either typed it twice or put a piece of carbon paper between two sheets of paper and rolled it through together. It was easy of course to tell which was the carbon copy (by the way when you send an email cc to more than one person - that's where the term cc came from - meaning carbon copy.) Typing classes then focused on speed and accuracy and we weren't allowed to look at our hands. Now with computers my kids learned easily to type just by talking to their friends on line and they don't look at their hands either.

I've been typing without looking at the keyboard since 1997. Before that, I had a heck of a time and typed very slow. I have no idea how many WPM I can type, but it's definatly much faster than before I learned. LOL

Yeah, I can do that. Even you can do that with a little typing lessons. You can easily learn typing and if you are on it for a week or so, you will automatically learn it. You'll be slow at start and make a few mistakes, but continue and you will soon become a master and increase your speed too gradually.

I can type withought looking at the keyboard. I can eben watch tv and let my fingers do the typing for me. The weird thing is i even know when I make a typo! I can type anywhere from 60-100 words per min. The higher when I am not using proper grammer like caps or puncutation!

Yes I can type without looking at the keys. I also know when I make a mistake. Been typing for to many years. Took typing in school (is it still offered). After the first month all the keys were tape over so you had to learn where everything was. Can also use a calculator without looking at the numbers, been using it for to many years also. Friends are amazed at how fast I can add things up without making mistakes.
