Since my last discussion about attempting to fix a few things around the home, I started out with the garbage disposal. According to the website ThisOldHouse, I found detailed instructions on what tools to use to fix it. I ordered a garbage disposal wrench from acehardware online and it arrived thirty minutes ago. As soon as I got it, I went to work. I followed the instructions and video, and after 10 minutes of turning the wrench this way and that, it finally came loose. I ran the water, turned on the switch, and VOILA ... it's rocking and rolling again YIHAA.
My hubby is gonna loooveee me!!!!!!
So what have you fixed recently? Do share!

Impressive! I'm thinking about pulling up the toilet and redoing my bathroom floor by myself. I even have the flooring just don't have the nerve yet

Grandpa Bob, Sure I'll do your bathroom and you can do my garage. Ooops I don't have one. I have 5 acres to put on on though. Building one from scratch won't be a problem for you will it?

maddysmommy, you are incredible. those things are not that easy to fix at all. it requires some skill.
yes, you are really so good at housekeeping. so much so that, even those tasks that only males are good at, you have done them with so much success!
good luck all the way for you, dear friend.

Thanks trinidad. They do require a lot of skill but I will try. The videos and instructions are very clear and easy to understand so that helps a lot :) thanks for the support.

Thanks tjades. The next one is either the leaking faucet or the toilet. It flushes but the part where the water goes out doesn't close.
The chaulking will be left for when my hubby gets back. He wants to help me out with that LOL :)

i fix a lot of things at home, too, maddysmommy. i have always known that it would have been best if i were a man rather than a woman.
the last big task that i did with the house was when we had to change the GI Sheets of our roof. my son assisted me with this task.
as for the small things to deal with at the house, the last one that i did was making a clothesline in this new place which we are currently housed.

Well thats the thing trinidad, I was waiting for my hubby to step up and fix them but because he never has, I decided it's about time someone did, so I searched online and found that site which gives great instructions and videos.
My next project is the leaky faucet and toilet. I'll leave the chaulking till he comes back because he now wants to help :) We can have fun doing it together.
Sounds like your projects are quite major - a clothesline is not a small improvement. Sounds like you're quite the handywoman :) thanks trinidad for your comments.

Congratulations on the DIY job, you did on your own maddysmommy!! As a single parent I had to learn how to do things on my own. Now, I watch and help my husband do these things, and it's fun to do them together!

Definitely a good addition to our small tool box. At least I have one and no doubt will come in handy if the insinkerator gets stuck again.
I did tell him via chat online and he was so happy for me. He wants me to save the chaulking till he gets home so we can do it together :)

Good for you!!!!
Way to go!
Just today I helped my BF fix a hand grip in our friends bathroom.
Normally he likes to do these things by himself.
And I have to be careful with my back and neck.
But he had been painting doors the whole week and his arm is killing him. Poor thing. LOL!!!
(We need the money)
So I had to drill the wholes.
It has been a long while back since I have had a drill in my hands. hahaha!
But I did not break the tiles!!! I can still do it.hahaha!
So our friend is happy again and I even feel a little better.
How about you? Are you feeling better?
Take care.

Hi Margajoe
I am feeling a whole lot better thanks. It's definitely my eating habits that made me feel the way I was feeling last week. I was suppose to see my doctor for a physical but I got my monthly so have to wait. I also want to get a pap smear and stuff as well - full physical.
I feel great after getting pampered this week. Just been hanging out with my son at his basketball practices and games, enjoying our time together. I'm back at school volunteering and thats a lot of fun.
Today was such a lovely day that we went to basketball game early and played outside on the bball courts before his game, then afterwards spent 30 minutes at the park - was so refreshing.
I'm also being more careful with my food now and I'm finding I'm not as gassy either LOL
Great to hear you're DIY projects are coming along well too and that you're better :) HUGs Rachel

Yes we both do for fun though. I use to play basketball and netball in my younger days. This year we are going to get out in Spring and summertime and teach him some more basics.

I am not a fix it type of man. I usually get my son-in-law over to fix things etc. But this spring I am going to add insulation and walls and shelving in my garage as long as the finances are well enough to afford it. But I will get the insulation in at least. I don't do home repairs at all. Ugghh! Does that make me a moron of the fix it clan?

Absolutely not Grandpa Bob. Not everyone is a fixit type of person. I'm just tired of the drips and stuff that have been sitting around waiting to be fixed. The reason why i avoided getting them fixed was because of the costs involved. Then when I stumbled across this website I thought I can try that :) and I did.

I'm the same way...Hubby's disabled so most of the handyman things fall on me to do. I'm actually getting pretty good about it...I can change batteries in the smoke alarm, change lightbulbs, hang mini-blinds and replace toilet seats. Not bad for a girl, huh?

Good Job! I dunno that I've fixed anything around the house recently exactly that isn't girlie... you know like darning socks, rigged the handle on the dog's leash, putting the chain back on my daughter's bike.
