Social networking sites

How many of you belong to sites such as Facebook, MySpace, You Tube, Where Are You Now, and so on?
What do you use such sites for?
I belong to a couple. I think it's an excellent way to keep up with old friends. But I don't make it an obsession; I can't afford to. After all, I am a very happily married man who, after all, likes to live in the present.
To those of you who belong to such sites: How do you keep a good balance between reminiscing about the past, and getting so caught up in encountering your old high school, college, etc. friends, that it ruins your marriage, and even your life? I have heard of people who steal company time by logging on to such sites.
Facebook is not worth losing your job over.
How many of you are actually addicted to these sites? I especially want to hear from those on the brink of divorce, have been fired from their jobs, etc. over this.
And I also want to hear from you if you are nowhere close to that. And those in between.
If you are on a social networking site, I do want to hear from you.
Let's talk.
Best wishes,
Angus

I joined Youtube, because I love listening to opera and classical music and I was sick of going to the websites of the opera singers, and just hearing audio clips, that were sometimes not available. I wanted to see how they looked when they were performing and I wanted to get pointers as how to improve my singing as well as other stuff. I do not have a camera that takes motion pictures though so cannot upload anything I love.
I joined Yuwie, but gave it up as people join just to get paid and there is too much confusion. My daughter-in-law joined Facebook, and posted the pictures of our granddaughter on it. So I decided to join Facebook to keep in touch since we do not have a car anymore and she lives about two or three miles away.

just like you angusthethird, i belong to a couple of networking sites. i have my friendster, multiply, myspace and facebook account. i find it a good way to communicate and keep in touch with old friends. 'cause in my case, me and my family just immigrated here in Canada few months ago, so its my best way of talking to my old friends in the Philippines. i really love it when i still feel they're close to me as i can see photos, videos from them. so horaay to these sites! :)

I'm an active member of Friendster and Facebook. Eventhough i'm active on those sites, it doesn't affect me in real life because it is not unlike chatting. I can leave the site any time of the day then go back maybe few hours after. I am also a member of Myspace and Multiply but i'm quite inactive on those site. I just don't find them interesting and worthwile.

Hi, I do agree with you that social networking sites are not worth losing your job over. I have friendster and multiply, other than that is myspace but I closed my account along time ago. I regularly check friendster everyday for updates about my friends, colleagues and relatives. It really is a convenient way to make contact with them. Especially when there are scheduled get-together parties with friends. But most of all I like the fact that I'm always updated about what my friends have been doing; like knowing who's pregnant, who's getting married, who has gone abroad, and etc. Although these are little things, it's just a nice way to simply congratulate your friends for their accomplishments. On the other hand, I have never been addicted to social sites, for me there's nothing more to it than INFO. I just treat it like a regular email. I never really thought that some people would have problems with social site addiction, its just stupid....hehe :)

I fought joining these sites for along time, I just didn't think they were safe but I joined Myspace because a friend asked me to and I quite like that, I use it to promote my friends in the music industry then someone asked me to join Facebook but i didn't really want to but i got talked into it and I am really addicted to this especially the Yoville application, it has satified my compulsive spending which i had to do because of the way things are at the moment, I can still spend on this game as it is like The Sims game and you can spend but with play money....its great. I am single so I don't have to worry about anyone else getting upset...

I am a member of a couple of social networking sites, but I don't spend a lot of time on those sites. In the past I visited MySpace pretty often. I joined many groups there and I liked to read and participate in the discussions. I still visit the site every once in a while, but I don't spend much time there. I am a member of Facebook as well, but I hardly spend any time there at all. Some of my friends from real life have a profile there, and I signed up and I added them as friends, but aside from that I haven't been active there.
