Married but not dead

To me, I use the expression when a nice looking guy walks by and somebody expresses shock that I'm looking. "Dawn, you're married." "Yep, married but not dead." But some folks see that expression (like when I was using it as my quote on another site) and think it means "married but cheating" or "married but open to flirtations."
What does it mean to you?

Yeah as long as it's one of those "Look, but don't touch" things then it's okay. It's instinct to look at times, even if you're 100% happy and married. It should be almost reassuring to the person you're married to that you look at other people, but still only want them.

Some people don't like it at all but I suspect that there are other insecurities there!

It means what you said. That you are alive and can appreciate the looks of an attractive man/me. That's all. Men look and have always looked too. The trouble is when people do more than look! What attracted me to my husband was his voice. I like men who speak well. What I find really attractive in a man is when he wears, blue jeans, white shirt and a jacket. and yes, my husband wore these clothes very well.:)Good posting.

Guys can't help but look, some gals can't either.
But looking isn't flirting or cheating, its just enjoying the scenery. So, you look at a good looking guy/gal, you look at a nice look landscape too. Does that mean you want to move/live there?
I look, granted I'm single, but I don't want to hop in bed with him, heck, I'll look at a nice looking gal too, but I don't want to go to bed with her either!

It means ya might be married, but it doesn't hurt to look at whats passing by! lol I have been known to say that, it doesn't mean you are trying to get into bed with someone. It never hurts to look. And I've even been known to point out really attractive women to my s/o. Does that mean he's going to cheat on me, no. Go right on looking, I know I will until I can't see very well lol

I feel it is perfectly natural to look around whether in a relationship or not. When I have a girlfriend and she looks at other men I have no concerns as I look at other women too and I think it is a healthy thing. It would be unnatural not to appreciate beauty or attractiveness of another person due to being in a relationship. If two people know each other well enough they would know it was harmless and would feel secure in the knowledge it meant nothing. If it were to be taken further that would be a different thing entirely.

I guess it could also be a problem if you've given the other person a reason to be suspicious.

Yep but there is still a double standard out there in many places...

It means exactly what it says...you're married but your eyes still work and you're still able to appreciate someone nice looking. It doesn't mean that you want to cheat...or flirt. Looking is acceptable. Geez, imagine not being allowed to look when you're at the beach.

Yeah if I can't look, he can't either. Sheesh...
