2. Does MIDI play on VCD or DVD? if it can, does it support videos? can i really see the lyrics on the screen?
3. Is there software that convert .kar files to avi or mpeg or to any other video format?

Try moving the .cfg file out of the directory to paste it some where else.Open it when any program is not running, it might then open.
did you mean .mid files when you mentioned Midi files. If yes then then you can copy them on DVD and there is no harm copying them on VCD from where you can access them easily.
To convert .kar files to .avi , download any good software from internet to do this.
To protect your documents in the USB, try set a password for all MS Office documents. TO protect other files, use any software
